Recognising Motivation Roadblocks

When you embark on a weight loss journey, it’s important to be in the right state of mind and have a strategy to keep yourself motivated. One particular strategy is being able to both recognise obstacles and deal with them quickly so you can stay on track.

The reason why motivation is so important is that it can trigger emotions, some positive and some negative. The negative emotions will lead to you being unmotivated, so you need to dispel those pretty quickly.

To help you out, we’ve collected a few examples of common struggles and strategies to cope with them.

Working hard for little results

It can be really frustrating when you feel you’ve worked so hard at losing weight but your results have been minimal. The fact is, that everyone is different. Comparing yourself to someone else is no good. The reality is that it is healthier to lose your weight at a slower rate and is easier to maintain than if it all drops off at once. Think of your weight loss as a journey, not a race. Also be mindful that the numbers on the scales don’t give you the full picture. Make sure before you start on your weight loss journey that you measure yourself in various places and take full length pictures of yourself. This will give you lots of comparables for when you feel disappointed with what the scales say.

Cravings

Cravings will happen when you start to lose weight, as it is only natural that you will want a taste of the foods and drinks that you are now steering clear of. We always want something we can’t have. To deal with cravings, you need to remember the reason as to why you no longer consume certain foods and drinks and what will happen if you bring them back into your life right now. Something else to consider is that with the New You total food replacement plan, your cravings will eventually disappear due to ketosis. You will find that you no longer have the deep urges to binge on sweet treats and overly processed fatty foods.

Unsupportive friends and family

You may not realize it but when aunt Sally offers you an ice cream knowing you are trying to lose weight, it is an act of being unsupportive. When your brother Phil says ‘oh, you’ll be ok eating just one,’ he is not taking your weight loss journey seriously. It’s those little comments that eat away at you until you eventually cave in, so it’s good to have some positive rebuttals on hand. Make sure you use words like ‘choose’ and ‘decide’ rather than ‘can’t and ‘not allowed’. Also remember that if you can’t get your friends and family to support you on your weight loss journey, it doesn’t mean you don’t have a support network. The New You Plan have their own supportive community called the Secret Slimmers Facebook page, where you can get help and advice whenever you need it. You’re not alone!

Too busy to exercise

People get so caught up in thinking they MUST have an exercise regime when it’s simply not true. Any movement that you start engaging in that you didn’t do previously will be beneficial to your health and weight loss efforts. Getting off the bus a stop early, taking the stairs instead of the lift or walking the dog for an extra 10 minutes a day-it all adds up. With the New You Plan TFR, we don’t recommend intensive exercise due to the small calories intake and our customers find they reach their weight loss goals without slogging it out at the gym.

Healthy food is expensive

This is really dependent on where you shop for food. But it has been shown time and time again that cooking from scratch and batch cooking can save you money in the long run. Don’t forget that the New You Plan products are healthy food, as they contain all the macros you need along with 23 vitamins and minerals. And at under £4.00 a day it’s a complete bargain!

Hopefully, you will be able to deal with these five mindset roadblocks a lot easier now so they don’t interfere with your motivation.
