They Remind Me Of Who I Don’t Want To Be

One of the great things about life, is that at any time we can recreate ourselves and become who we want to be. If there is something you don’t like about yourself, you can decide to change it.

In this blog post I want to prompt you to think if you are creating any part of your life based on someone you do not like, and because of this, you want to be the opposite of them. In theory this sounds like a good plan, but I want to share with you how I recently discovered that this was holding me back in my life.

You Can Change Anytime You Want!

Creating your New You is something that we can do in every area of our lives, at every age. You are never too old to set a new goal or create a new you!

One of the most obvious ways you can create a new you is to change how you look. Lose weight, get fit and embark on a beauty & style transformation. You can reinvent yourself, and the start of a new decade is the perfect time to do this!

But real change happens in the inside, at our core, when we decide to change who we are; what we believe, how we act and how we show up in this world.

How do we decide WHO we want to be in this world?

There are many ways that we can start to shape our personality.

Some of the best ways are; by being inspired by positive successful people, reading personal development books, going to seminars or reading biographies on great people.

Another way is by becoming more self aware, through going to therapy or by meditating, and then consciously deciding what you want to change and who you want to become.

One thing to be mindful of is how the toxic people in our life, influence who we become. We can learn a lot of great lessons from people, but it is important to be mindful not to start to modelling yourself on people you do not like and aim to become of the opposite of them.

Be Careful Of Modelling Yourself On Who You Don’t Want To Be

I fell into this trap. I wanted to be the opposite to someone who I felt was not a good role model for how I wanted to live my life.

Some of the qualities they had that I did not like was that they were too intolerant, aggressive, rude, and controlling.

I modelled myself on being the opposite of these things. My desire to not be like them was a big driver on who I wanted to become in life. So I worked on being the opposite of them.

I became too tolerant, too nice, I had weak boundaries. This resulted in me finding it harder and harder to find my voice to speak up when it mattered. I let people walk over me. I was “too nice” and was a “people pleaser.”

Through going to therapy I realised that I had went too much the opposite, and that both extremes are not healthy.

Being too aggressive is not good, and being a push over is not good.

Being a demanding loud mouth is not good, but not speaking up for what you want is not good either.

You need a healthy balance of all traits in your life.

Sometimes you need to be speak up and not worry if you offend someone!

You need to be able make it clear to someone that you will not tolerate their behaviour and follow through on the consequences if they continue.

Its healthy to have boundaries and standards and to be firm in your stance that they will not be lowered. You need to have a healthy balance of all traits and to be able to use them when appropriate to ensure you life a healthy, happy and effective life.

The Dangers Of Letting People You Don’t Like Influence Who You Are

We all know those people who “just love themselves” and they are so bloody annoying. They are always in your face about what they are up to, and how amazing they are, and how fit they are, and how flipping fantastic they are!

Maybe a lot of the things they do, are actually good things to do, but they are just over the top about how they go about it and it grinds on you. Then because you have a negative emotion to them, it stops you doing the things that they do.

This is something to be aware of too. You don’t want to stop yourself from doing things that are good for you, just because someone you don’t like does it, and it has created a negative connection in your mind.

Decide Who You Want To Be & Become That Person

In 2020 I hope that you can become YOU.

Decide who you want to be and go about choosing to become that person.

Have a healthy balance of traits. Speak up, have strong boundaries and high standards.

Don’t let toxic people influence your personality or what you do. Learn from them, but don’t let becoming the opposite of them be important to who you are.

Don’t worry about what other people want you to do or be. You just be you, and be happy being you.

Find inspiration for who you want to be from people who inspire you, and who have achieved the things that you want to achieve in your life.

Most of all, listen to your heart, who do you want to be? Believe that you can be everything you want to be, and get to work on making it true.

Move in the direction of your dreams; to create a personality, a body and a lifestyle supports you in a healthy way to become the best version of you.
