Smash Your First Week With our Top 10 Tips!
So you’ve made the life-changing decision to lose weight with the New You Plan and have placed your first order. How exciting!
You’re probably thinking what happens next?
Well, we know for sure that you will receive your beautifully packaged box of goodies within a few days. And when you’ve ripped the box from the courier arms and placed it on the kitchen counter, it’s probable that you won’t be able to find a clean knife or pair of scissors to open it with! Isn’t it always the way?
We can tell you now that when you do finally open your parcel, you will be met with brightly packaged meals, shakes, bars, snacks and shakers.
Looking through your packets your excitement may turn to overwhelm and wonder how the plan will work for you and how you are going to put your new diet into action.
But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with our 10 tips for starting and getting through your first week on The New You Plan.
1. Get organised
You’re going to be on The New You Plan for at least 12 weeks so make some welcome space for your New You packets in your kitchen. Clear a draw or cupboard, or even invest in some small boxes. Sort your packs and bars out into a system that you feel will work for you. Some people like to plan ahead for the week and separate meals into specific days and bag them up so they can just grab and go. No thinking required!
We also suggest that before you leave the house, pop a bar or two in your bag. This is a great way to prepare for any ‘eating’ situations that you may find yourself in or if you are out later than you expected.
Invest in a reusable water bottle to make sure you are getting your daily water intake when you’re out and about too.
2. Pick a day
Before you dive straight in, (we know how tempting those bars look) pick a day that you will start and stick to it. Let all of your friends and family know that you are starting a our plan and why. This will not only make you accountable, which is a great motivator, but it will ease any awkwardness if you get invited to family gatherings or social events.
3. Planning is key
We don’t recommend that you wing it. Having a plan to follow in order to reach your goals will keep you on track. Create small and achievable milestones and every time you hit one, reward yourself with something non-food related.
Make sure you record your weight and measurements and take some before photos. You may not like images of yourself but they are super important so you can compare them with others you will take during your journey. You will be amazed and motivated by your transformation even after week one.
4. The products
We recommend that you have four products a day (5 products if you are over 17 stone) and three to four litres of water every day. Each pack contains 25% of your RDAs so consuming four will ensure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.
We don’t advise that you have less than four packs as not only will your body not receive enough calories but it will not burn fat either!
5. Say hello in Secret Slimmers
We insist that you go and introduce yourself on our Facebook Secret Slimmers page. Our community is so friendly and the support you will get from our members is second to none as far as we’re concerned.
You will be welcomed and encouraged at every step of your unique journey. You won’t feel alone as there are plenty of people on the same path as you and experienced Plan’ers to cheer you on.
The great thing is our page is totally secret, so nobody else apart from fellow slimmers will see what you post. You can also make use of the ‘Files’ section, where it explains what you can and can’t have whilst on the plan.
As with most groups, we do have a few rules.
- We never talk about food unless it’s a New You product.
- If you must talk about food please refer to it as a blip.
- Be kind and supportive to other slimmers.
- Don’t mention any other diet companies.
- Get involved on the page by taking part in the challenges and themed days. They are there to keep you motivated.
6. Days 1 – 3
Now, we’re not going to lie to you, the first three days are going to be the hardest. As your body detoxes, you may feel tired and have a headache or two. To get through this, we suggest warm baths, early nights and paracetamol.
You will need to stay 100% focused on these three days and push your way through them, so make sure you have plenty of support.
Before you know it, your body will be in ketosis, burning fat for fuel and you will be feeling fabulous!
7. Get to know ketosis
Ketosis usually kicks in between days four and seven, but everyone is different. You will know when you have reached this stage when you feel more energised. There can be other short-lived signals to look out for such as a metallic taste in your mouth or ‘Ketosis breath’ as it’s known, and this is completely normal.
8. Weigh-in day!
Hold off weighing yourself until seven days after you’ve started the plan. We know how tempting it is to do it earlier-but don’t! Record your weight, put it up on our Secret Slimmer’s page if you like, and then weigh yourself on the same day every week.
Weighing yourself more often can be demotivating as your weight fluctuates during the week. Don’t torture yourself! We appreciate it’s easy to say, but don’t compare your weight loss to others. Your journey is unique to you. Also, don’t be discouraged by the numbers on the scales, as the numbers on the tape measure could be different to the last time and you probably lost inches instead!
9. Exercise!
We don’t recommend intensive exercise during your first week as your body is already going through a lot of changes, however, a brisk walk in the fresh air wouldn’t hurt.
On TFR, exercise isn’t essential in order to lose weight.
If you feel that you want to include exercise in your plan once you are firmly established on your journey, you may find that you need to eat an extra pack in order to keep your calories above 450 to stay medically safe.
10. No Negativity
The haters are gonna hate! There will always be someone who will have an opinion on what you’re doing-especially when it comes down to diet. People may say that TFR isn’t safe but it’s 100% safe.
Just remember that this is your journey, your body and your mind. The doubters will soon see the pounds falling off you and then they will want to know more about how you did it! You have our permission to tell them ‘I told you so!’
Hopefully you now feel fully armed and ready to get started with your journey. If you have any questions or need further support, we are here for you every step of the way. Don’t forget that you can always turn to the Secret Slimmer’s page if you want to hear from real people, just like you, and how they are getting through or got through their first week.

Started back on the plan today after a long break. This time I want to reach my goal of 9.5 stone. Last time I was that weight was after having my daughter some 35 years ago! Starting at 13 st 1.5 and hoping for a bumper start. Last time I was 17 stone so definitely an improvement. Here goes!
Hi Amanda!
Wishing you the best of luck.
Warm regards
Joanne
