[Video] Team Tips Tuesday – Reasons why this is what you want
Welcome to Team Tips Tuesday:
Thank you for joining me again today, I hope you all enjoyed my interview with Melissa yesterday. It was such great fun to catch up with her and see how she has been getting on since the transformation and it appears that things have just been going from strength to strength with her. This is really what it is all about – us helping you to create The New You!
This leads us directly into today’s topic for Team Tips Tuesday which is defining the reasons why this is what we want. Defining a goal gives you the ability to understand what it is you are trying to achieve. Knowing the reasons behind trying to achieve a goal goes a long way towards affirming the attitude needed to get there. What this means is, if you know clearly why something is so important then you are far less likely to back down in the face of a challenge.
The trick here is to get really involved in this. Stating that you are going to do The New You Plan to lose weight is far too broad a reason to be effective. To say that it is to be more confident goes a long way but again you could go even further, such as being able to ask someone out who you may have had your eye on for a while. The other side of this is to pick more than just one, as there is often more than one reason why you may want to lose weight. The reason I feel this is so important is that even in a short space of time your aspirations may change and you need to have more than one to ensure that there is always something keeping you motivated.
Task for today:
So what I hope to do today is look into the reasons why you want this more than anything else and let us know what these are. You may not be comfortable putting all your reasons in the comments section which is perfectly alright so long as you know them!

Thanks Lisa we had a lot of fun with the video today 🙂
i want to be healthy again ,i want to look good in clothes , and i just want to love being me again x
These are short and pack a punch Pauline:)Well done and make sure you tune in on Thursday as the task there is really relevant to this!
I want to get my life back feel confident and improve my health x
Super Jackie I am sure you will get there and we are going to be backing you every step of the way!
1. To take pressure of my poor sore knees! 2. To teach my children healthy eating habits 3. To feel more confident in everyday situations
This is great Elaine you have really brought it down to the foundations here, this will allow you to track your progress!
I really want to lose weight and be slim because I am a dancer but I am sooo self conscious about my body weight and size, on stage ,and also about how I will look on video. I really feel that I will gain confidence as a dancer if I don’t have to worry abut looking too fat on stage. Also I am so fed up of being called chubby. I know I’m not very overweight but to me chubby is a horrid term and I no longer want to be associated with that term.
I lack self belief and I NEED to believe in myself that I CAN do this and if I DO this, I know this will have a knock on positive effect in every aspect of my life.
Lastly, I absolutely ADORE clothes. I am a big fashion follower and I want to be able to wear the latest fashion items with pride, without worrying if I am too fat for it or if my muffin top is showing. I “I know what I want and I want it now. I want to drop pounds cos cos I am Mrs vain” lol 🙂
This put a huge smile on my face Sandra and I know you will nail this as your heart is in the right place. I would really love to hear more from you here and see how you get on 🙂
Main reason I want this more than anything is to feel confident rather than hiding myself in extra size clothes , to look my best and even to look forward for a better health :))
Great reasons Nanda – best of all to an extent they are measurable! Keep it up and thanks for sticking with me 🙂
I want to get my health back, look good in my clothes, and make my man proud of me.x
Super Lisa, I am over the moon that your are so focused on your reasons here and I think you will find that after a short while with us you are going to make YOU PROUD!!!!
I just want to feel my confidence grow and not always be so aware of myself and just be in the background worried about people judging me. As my confidence is growing my clothes are feeling better and that is the best feeling and a motivater to keep on this journey and move my judgement of myself which I feel is happening sticking to this plan Xxx
Awesome Rachael, thank you for sticking with me too :)You are going to get to where you need to be I know it!
I want to lose the weight so that I am fit and healthy and able to enjoy interacting with my young kids as they grow up instead of suffering chronic back ache & exhaustion. The weightloss so far has helped so much and im now able to chase my toddler around the house and basically enjoy life!!
I loved speaking to you about this before Lorna – You are already in such a good place here, keep it going!
i want 2 loose weight for me:
so i feel happy and confident with myself also
so i can buy nice clothes in smaller sizes and know i look good in them.
also be healthier and fitter
This is such a snappy confident list Emma, I know you are going to blitz this!
I want to lose weight so i can have a better outdoor lifestyle and feel better about myself
This is fantastic Grainne, it would be great to hear a little more about what you like to do. We are a very active team and love to hear about other peoples interests 🙂
3 reasons why I wished to lose weight …
1: To improve my health & confidence ..and to look good in a pair of size 12′s ..
2: For Richard to have a healthy happy wife..
3: For My beautiful daughter Laura, She means the world to me ,so that I will be able to see her grow up and to be a good Mum to her and run after her when she discovers boys 🙂 (she’s 14 )
Super Oonagh, this are the kinds of reasons that will keep you moving forward 🙂
1. Regain myself, not a clouded dark shadow of the confidant and impressive young women I was or should I say am!
2. Teach my children the good habits I somehow miss placed!
3. Take back the control I gave to food
4. Ensure I’m doing what I can to ensure I’m around to see my children grow and hopefully gran children
5. To NOT be the fat friend
6. To buy size 10 of the rack, to have a good “style” wardrope
7. To improve my quality of life
8. Give myself more confidence in work
9. To ensure I keep my husband proud of who he married as I am a reflection of him!
10. To create to “new improved me” before I turn 30 🙂
Wow Kelly that is very comprehensive, what is fantastic here is that these are all so personal! Thanks for the support and I hope to continue reading more from you in the future!
I want to gain back my positivity and my love for life and fun (it would also be great if by losing weight it would take away my chronic back pain) woo hoo!
This is super Annette, keep it going and you will get there!
The reasons behind me undertaking the New You Plan are:
To try and undo some of the damage I had done to my heart
So that I can play games and do activities with my family
So that I could walk in to any shop and be able to pick clothes off the rack
so that I can love myself and my body again
So that I never need to ask for an extension to my seat belt on the plane again!!!!!
You are an inspiration Shell, you have kept with it and chipped away at this with so much success. I would love to be the one that does your next interview! Keep it up Shell.
that would be fab, it won’t be long now either 🙂
i be honest and say firstly its for me to feel better about myself..after a lifetime well, since my teens, of having mental-health issues i have hated myself for different reasons not just being overweight..no that only came along when i was in my 20’s.. oh, the joy 😉 so to have this goal and actually have some hope of now achieving it will help me bucket loads in the self-esteem department – it already is !!
then there’s the health – i know it should be top of the list but well, it isnt lol. i have a lot of pain with fibromyalgia and really want to try and help myself in terms of taking pressure of back/hips/knees and anywhere else that is feeling the effects of my days and nights of over-indulging 🙂
i will be able to take my coat/cardi/jacket off when in a public place if i’m too warm and not sit and melt cos i dont want people to see my shape – or lack of! i will be able to get up and walk across a room quite confidently and not just sit and cross my legs cos i dont want to draw attention to myself by getting up to go to the to the loo say in a restaurant/bar/coffee shop – seriously! loads of wee things like that that a slim person may not identify with. it’ll be awesome 🙂 🙂
sorry its longwinded xx
These are great reasons Shirley and I can see it has struck a cord with you as some of what you have written here sounds so much like the things I said at the start. Keep it up and thanks for the ongoing support!
To improve my health and hopefully get rid of the strong persistent aching in my knees.
To see me in the mirror not some alien who is fat
To feel more confident
To feel able to buy and wear the clothes I really like
Oops, I can’t count 😉
You can never have too many reasons to do the right thing Alison! Keep smashing it, always a treat to hear from you.
I want to be healthy and fit
I want to look better
I want to like what I see in the mirror
I want to buy the clothes I like
I want a healthy relationship with food x
Great list Karen and I am sure you are going to put a tick against every one of them very soon!!
I want to lose weight for many reasons and some of these reasons were highlighted when I initially started New You in April.
When I looked at the circle of life (can’t remember what it was called) and I had to ask myself how my weight affected parts of my life I realised it basically affected every aspect of my life!! This was quite difficult for me to take in, but now I am determined to lose weight so I can pursue the career I want (I am in my final year at Uni) and be more sociable again (as I have become a recluse since I put on all this weight). But the one goal that I am holding on to and visualise everyday is to be in a size 14 dress on my graduation in July 2014 (i’m a size 26 at the moment). But I feel with losing the weight my confidence will be back and with my confidence I feel I can do anything :0)
You are going to get there Devinia and your graduation is a very powerful tool as it may only happen that once 🙂
My 3 reasons why I want to lose my weight:
1. So my son’s are not worrying about me (my health) all the time as they do, Since my father past their granddad.
2. So a lot of my aches and pains disappear like in my knees and hips. Start feeling my age 43 instead of 73.
3. Lastly so I go out and join in with family & friends, to get out of the house as being big has made me into someone who doesn’t go anywhere apart from when I have to like work.
These are really clear concise reasons Wendy and over the past couple of weeks I have seen just how determined you are!!! I would love to think that some of this is already coming to pass for you and I appreciate all the time you have spent supporting me too!
Im doing this for one reason only ME because once im happy then my son is happy because we do far more stuff when im healthy and have more energy : )
BOOM… enough said Amanda! One right reason is worth a million half hearted ones
As those who know me well I am doing this for my health…and it’s WORKING This week I am no longer taking my BP tablets. My med are being reviewed when I get back to the UK so might lose a couple more tablets. This means I will be around to see my precious grandchildren grow up….and a PLUS side of losing all this weight….is NOT just your HEALTH improves but you look BETTER too….and that imspires you to have more confidence. This is the best thing I have ever done…and PROBABLY the FIRST time in my life that I have considered myself IMPORTANT enought to put ME FIRST. Thankyou NY and my SS Familia for all your support.
Your story continues to inspire us Anne and it makes everything we do just that little bit easier and more enjoyable and we relish the fact that you have accomplished so much. Indeed you are getting there and these reasons have served you so utterly well – keep going!!
I have two wardrobes of big and small clothes … Only want one wardrobe !!
Epic.. this is a simple but brilliant reason as I think there is so much more to this! Thanks Susi
My reasons are simple: to get back to my healthy pre retirement weight and lifestyle and, to feel and look confident in my clothes again. And I’m getting there!!!!!! 🙂 xx
Simple is often better Mags 🙂 well done keep it up!
I want to be who I really am….. have confidence to speak out, to wear what I want and to try new things. I want to wear a bikini at the beach…. I want to be healthy and have the confidence to exercise outdoors!!! And I want to DUMP MY BRIDGET JONES KNICKERS!!!!
I have many reasons for losing weight but my three top ones are 1)to be healthy :I need to be more active with my little boy, he has only turned two but I feel embarrassed running after him in the park and places so I don’t go very often and never on my own so that if he does run off someone else will run 2) confident :my confidence is at an all time low that going shopping and paying bills has become very hard as I just feel awful in my clothes and 3)sexy : I got engaged in the summer and I should be so happy to try on a dress but I can’t because I want to feel excited about it but doubt any dress would make me feel good with the weight I am.
I think these are all so great Shauna, one stood out for me more than any though as it is time sensitive and will give you just the right amount of nudging in the right direction! I hope your wedding rocks 🙂
I want to look good in my wedding dress next august
I want to feel better and have more energy to play with my little cousins and (my future children)
And I want to feel better about myself and be able to wear nice clothes without being embarrassed…
I feel like a bit of a cop out here as it just came up but Eva it is worth mentioning twice because it is just so relevant, your wedding is going to be such a powerful tool as it gives you such a time defined purpose – I hope you have an amazing day and thank you for the ongoing support here too!
1. for my health. ive developed back and hip problems and had to stop running, which i loved. i know my overeating wasnt good for my health, mentally and physically. i hope a while from real food will make me develop a healthy relationship with food when i get to goal and start reintroducing healthy things.
2,. to get back into my lovely clothes. ive go a huge wardrobe and im limited to a few things, and joggers at the weekend as none of my jeans fitted me. ive so many clothes with tags still on. i sit and look at all the lovely clothes that dont fit and every winter i pack away summer clothes unworn and bring out winter clothes again unworn from the year before.
3. to get a social life again. becuase i dont feel nice i dont feel confident and i wont go out socialising. i feel like the fat friend. im single and ill not meet someone sitting in on a saturday night with my dogs eating!! im hoping the confdence i get from my weight loss with new you will get me back out there xxx
These are three great reasons Paula and I can see how much they mean to you which is really what it is all about today, tip the scales cognitively. Please make sure you catch up with me on Thursday as I think it will be the second part to this for you!
I want to feel more confident, and happy with myself so I can do the thing that I rally want to do without hesitating.
This journey has been fantastic and everyone has an amazing story to tell. This has helped me stay on track until our world was turned upside with the news you never want to hear. But, things are looking up,and I am getting back on track and the most important thing is that I want this last bit of weight GONE so I can buy a new wedding dress and god willing we will get out holiday we have waited 11 years for (and then had to cancel due to this dam cancer) and renew our vows somewhere on a nice warm beach, in the spring. That is my goal to look my best for such a wonderful, strong and brave man that I married 14.5 years ago. Urrg, must stop ctying lol
I just watched my cursor blink for ages after reading this Nicola and I really don’t think anything I can say will do this justice. You have such a beautiful and yet painful stance on this. I feel that this is a little bit of serenity for you rather than an epic conquest – I am sure you will pass many mile markers and each time you do there will be one more feather in your cap that you earned with a smile! Keep on keeping on 🙂
my three reasons for losing weight : I want to be true to myself im fed up being the fat funny one always joking around my weight , but inside im cringeing with embrassment . To be healthy as heart trouble runs in my family. Thirdly to be able to go into a shop and buy what I want and not having to say to myself thats lovely but could you picture the size of my ass in that!
You are going to do it Eileen because it is clearly what you want! Keep at it and thanks for the support 🙂
I want more than anything to be a ‘yummy mummy’ at the school gates!! I want Maisy to be proud and to know things are possible if you put your mind to it 🙂
Sure I want to be healthy and fit, I need to keep up with my sporty girl!!
I want to feel proud of myself, to feel confident and able to wear beautiful clothes and enjoy going out.
I want more from life for me and my family. I would love to meet someone- as scary as that is at the moment, but I know I have to love me first.
Ooh and get back to horseridng, I adore horses.
I am excited just writing this!!! xx
Great reasons Aimee and I am sure you will turn heads and drop jaws at the school gates in no time 🙂
I want to be a healthy weight.
To feel good in my clothes as I haven’t done for years
Be able to feel good about myself and like what I see.
To make my Husband proud of me and how I look after 34 years of marriage.
I want to have less aches and pains due to my weight.
I know you are going to nail every one of these reasons Annie! thank you for the ongoing support and I hope to hear from you soon that you have blitzed all these.
My 3 top reasons for losing weight are to feel fitter and healthier with no bad back, to be able to wear nice clothes and feel confident in them, and to be a good role model for my 3 kiddies. Over half way on my journey and already I can see and feel the changes!! 🙂 x
This is super Clare 🙂 your are going to nail this – just keep these in the forefront of your mind!
Reason 1
Diagnosed with an incurable condidtion called Barrett’s oesophagus – Doctors informed me it was critical to lose the excess weight around my stomach. Also cannot eat most foods and have been told to eat small meals – hoping that NEW YOU will reduce my tummy size and my stomach size so that when I return to normal meals I will be full on a small meal.
Reason 2
I want to feel sexy again.
Reason 3
My sister is getting married in December and as I am the shortest sister ( there are 6 of us) I do not want to be the fattest sister, which I currently am.
These are definitely all reasons that create the type of urgency you are going to benefit from 🙂 Keep it going Fiona and good luck!
Hi Grant and Ellie 🙂
I am doing this plan so that i will be FIT and FABULOUS at 40 in march!!!!!! lol …..along with about 100 other reasons 😉
Woohoo Caroline I am sure you are going to blitz it 🙂 Lovely to have you with us and thanks for the support!
The reason I want to loose weight is
A) to be around to see my children for longer and spend time with my husband
B) to reduce my blood pressure and improve my health
C) to feel confident and improve my self esteem
D) to be a good role model as I am a nurse
E) to be able to stand up proud, and be that fun loving person my family can be proud of.
Great reasons Brenda, these are the types of reasons that ensure success 🙂
I want to lose the rest of my weight (4st 10lb gone since this time last year and 1st remaining) so that I prove to myself that the journey can be completed – that when I set a goal I stick to it. That will be monumental for me!!
I want to improve my self confidence and get back to being a happy person, who lives life.
There are also the scary goals of looking for a better job and starting dating again and I know they’ll be easier if I’m looking good and feeling good!!
Very compelling reasons Jess and I am sure this saga is going to have a happy ending!!
3 Reasons to loose weight:
1. To feel in control again of what i eat,
2. To feel confident in my clothes, not hiding behind black and baggy cardigans
3. To be able to be fitter to show an example to my children – healthy weight equals healthy Mummy!
Great reasons GLM – I am sure you are going to nail this!
I want to have some fun in my life again- be able to buy cute clothes, date cute boys and live more freely. I really just want to be able to throw caution to the wind without being so self conscious and enjoy life. Even as I type this it seems superficial but I have all my heartfelt reasons for wanting to lose wright but right now my driving force is simply FUN!
Such fun positive reasons Anna – I know you are going to get there!
I started the new you journey because I realized the past 2 years I piled on the weight through comfort and emotional eating. I’ve done this for my little girl. I didn’t want to get to the point where I couldn’t run around after her or have no energy to do anything with her. It’s still a struggle to keep from being bold with food but I look at her and want to be healthy for her and myself. I’m so so glad I found new you, it’s changed me in so many ways it’s unbelievable. I’m looking after me now where as before I neglected and hated myself.
That sounds like one really important reason to me :)Keep it up Nicola!
I want to look like myself again, I want to be my healthy weight, I want to wear clothes I like and not hide under baggy stuff.
You have already done so well Siobhan 🙂 keep it up, I know you will get there and thank you so much for the support!
I just want to be ME again in every sense of that expression … happy, more confident, jolly, friendly, fashion conscious, healthy, energetic, loving life … and i can already start to feel myself reappearing. Thanks New You 🙂 x
Fantastic Sarah, and you are going to achieve all this I know it 🙂
I just want my life back instead of hiding behind my fat x
You are most certainly going to get there Jackie!!!
I want to enjoy life, be healthy n be confident and I’m almost there!! I see huge changes in every aspect of my life!!! I’ve finally found the me who was hiding behind weight!!!
This painted a lovely picture Kathleen, keep it up !
I want my life back. I feel like I am just existing, not living. I have very little energy or confidence xx
This will change in a heartbeat Lisa – and I hope to hear from you again when you have seen the full effects of this plan! 🙂
My top 3 reasons for doing this are:
1. To improve my health and become fitter so I can keep up with my 9year old.
2. To have more confidence in myself and not to hide when I see a camera or hide behind other people for photos.
3. To get back into all the lovely clothes I have in my wardrobe and to be able to buy new clothes that makes me feel good.

1. To feel pretty again
2. To be fit and healthy so I can climb mountains with my kids!
3. To change my mindset and thinking about health, food and fitness and teach my kids that its normal to be fit and healthy and that its not something that they must challenge themselves to achieve! that will only happen by me demonstrating it!
I want to get my self confidence back
