What really struck a chord when chatting to Jane was how honest and frank she was about her reasons for starting The New You Plan, which are reasons that we know many people can relate to. “Hi! I’m Jane. I’m 48 and live in Bedfordshire with my husband and two sons aged 8 and 9.

I’m a busy stay at home mum. I was once happy to go and enjoy wild nights out with friends! However, the onset of cosy nights in with the family resulted in a huge weight gain. I used to be quite confident but I have become very introverted in recent years.

In June 2016 after not weighing myself for over a year, I took the plunge and stepped on the scales. I was horrified to be a whopping 16st 12lb, and a size 22. A subsequent holiday would see me tip well into the 17 stone bracket.

Up until this point I had tried every diet known to man! I would manage a couple of weeks and then the scales wouldn’t move and I subsequently gave in…and the weight goes up! Friends have tried to coerce me into trying slimming groups, but I refuse the humiliation of being publicly weighed and having to pay for the pleasure. No way!

I wasn’t always overweight. I was a bit of a chubby child but in my teens and into my late 20s I was within a healthy weight range. I married my husband in 1997 and within a year I had gone from being a slim bride to a fat wife. I think mostly it was out of boredom that the weight crept on. I had given up my job and moved away from friends and family and with little else to do I turned to food to fill the void. Bless my husband – he never moaned or complained about my weight gain and always encouraged me on my next diet attempt, before picking up the pieces when it failed. I was in a vicious cycle of losing half a stone and putting a stone back on!

So here I was about to go on holiday in June 2016, feeling fat and frumpy and unable to walk far due to an achilles tendon problem and a knee injury (lose weight the doctor advised me, ha!). So off on holiday I went. I enjoyed myself, ate too much, drank too many cocktails and came back easily tipping over the 17 stone mark, which was the heaviest I had ever been!

Then the photo moment happened…. An innocent photo of me with my father in law confirmed all my fears. I was not fat, I was HUGE. I was quite adept over the years of hiding my bulk behind my children, wearing floaty tent like tops and avoiding any situation that I could be caught on camera! So here it was and I could not deny it any more. I had to do something! I had 9 weeks until my next holiday in August and this time I was determined to be slimmer.

Don’t get me wrong I had tried a different TFR diet before (and failed) and I was sure this would go the same way, so I told no one apart from my husband what I was doing. I did 8 weeks in my first phase, from 7th June until 7th August. I’m not sure exactly how much I lost in this time, but those shorts came on holiday and I wore them to death!

So it’s now coming to the end of September 2016 on the fourth week of my second phase of TFR and I took the plunge and weighed myself today. I was down from a confirmed 16 stone 12lb to 14 stone 3lb. That’s 2 stone 9lb* gone for good, and it’s most definitely actually more as I think I was well over 17 stone at one stage. I now fit comfortably in size 18 jeans, with a couple of size 16s waiting in the wings! That’s 2 jean sizes gone forever!
