In pain, breathless & unable to fit into her work uniform, customer Christine knew she had to do something about her weight. Here, she shares how she lost 3st 6lbs & feels like a brand new person.
Christine, describe how you felt before you started the plan?
I felt pain… pain of the extra weight on my joints. I am only 158cm tall so that amount of weight on my frame took its toll. I couldn’t walk even short distances without being totally out of breath. I had an accident – me on bicycle vs car when I was 18 and I had issues with my hip all my life but now I was on the waiting list for a left hip replacement and the pain associated with the extra weight was immense. I felt frumpy and hated going outside.
How has the plan changed your life?
My health has improved dramatically – I used to run a lot and I went to bootcamp 3-4 times a week before putting on the weight which made me stop exercising because I was embarrassed which made me put on more weight and lock myself away. I can get up the stairs again now, I have started running again (signed up for a marathon in October). I can hold off on the hip replacement if I don’t overdo it with the running, so I have also taken up swimming now (and I actually fit into a swimsuit without help from other people).
What was your biggest motivator in staying on track?
Initially to fit into my uniform again (I am part time cabin crew) and the dread of having to order such a large uniform.. I did order it but I had to have it taken in as the size 16 I ordered was too large by the time I flew again in June.
What’s your biggest non-scale victory?
The first one was putting on that uniform dress just over a week before my first flight, thinking it would be tight, to discover that it was too large and I had to have it taken in, which was only finished the morning of my flight. Overall, fitting into my lovely size 6 clothes again and being able to shop and everything just fits.
Since losing weight, what is your happiest memory / proudest moment?
There has not been one moment as there were so many things, all a culmination of above. I am overall happier and healthier.
What is the nicest compliment you’ve received since losing weight?
I met a colleague while on a layover in Norway in the crew room and I said hi to her. I had not seen her in about 1 ½ years. She did not recognize me at all. Even after I told her that I was her instructor for 2 weeks and that I was blonde before.. I had to show her a before picture before she reluctantly agreed that we knew each other… that was hilarious and a compliment at the same time.
What are your favourite New You meals and snacks?
There is not one product I like best but my favorites are: Porridge, Chocolate Brownie, Triple Chocolate Bars, Pancakes, Risotto, Spicy Noodle Nosh, Salt and Vinegar crisps, Vanilla Wafer Bars.
What advice would you offer anyone thinking of starting the plan?
Go for it – give it at least 2 weeks, want to do it (there is no point in “trying” it, either go for it or don’t, you need to commit to it) it’s the easiest diet to stick to once you pass the first week hurdle. Take a pain killer regardless the first few days first thing in the morning, for the initial headache while your body gets into ketosis. Find what schedule works for you – eating every 3 hours for me worked best. Don’t add anything to the diet unless you absolutely have to. Order snacks – psychologically it is a fifth meal and on some days an absolute lifesaver to sticking to it. Do not weigh yourself if it is your TOTM – it’s not constructive to do that and can lead to blips… and it doesn’t reflect your actual weight.
Don’t give up if you do blip – brush it off and get right back on it. It does work.
