A New Life at 60: Tracey’s 6-Stone Journey from Medication to Freedom

When Tracey turned 60, she didn’t expect a photo at work to become the moment that changed her life. What looked like smiles on the outside felt very different on the inside, she was struggling with breathlessness, back pain, sore knees, and the quiet embarrassment of not recognising herself anymore. After a lifetime of trying diets that never truly worked, Tracey made one powerful decision: enough was enough. Since starting her journey, she has lost an incredible six stone, come off blood pressure medication after more than twenty years, dropped from a size 20–22 to a 12–14, and rediscovered confidence she hadn’t felt in decades.
In this interview, Tracey speaks with our Community Manager, Rachael, about the moment she knew she had to change, how she now shows up fully in her life without pain or limitation, and the determination it takes to set goals, stay committed, and completely transform your future. 💛
This is Tracey’s story…
Getting Started – The Wake-Up Moment
Rachael: First of all, congratulations on being one of our runners-up for the November and December Transformation Challenge! How are you feeling?
Tracey: I honestly cannot believe it. If you’d told me this time last year that I’d be a runner-up in the challenge, I would have said, “No, not me.” I feel so ecstatic, so proud, and very privileged to have been chosen.

Rachael: What made you decide to enter the Transformation Challenge?
Tracey: I turned 60 in October, and the girls at work decorated my office with tiaras and banners. It was lovely, but they took a photograph, and when I saw it, I was horrified. I hated what I saw. I just wanted to crawl into a corner.
We’d also been to the Lake District, and my husband took photos of me smiling in the car, but it wasn’t real. It was a mask. Inside, I felt embarrassed and unhappy.
I was struggling physically too. Walking the dog for even five minutes gave me severe back pain and sore knees. If I walked up the stairs at work and someone spoke to me halfway up, I’d be out of breath. I felt embarrassed all the time.
That was my moment. I thought, “I cannot go on like this anymore. I have to do something.”
I saw the plan on Facebook and decided to give it a go. I’ve always been overweight, even as a child, I remember going to dietitians at six or seven years old. I’d tried everything over the years: slimming clubs, cabbage soup diet, you name it. Nothing ever truly worked.
But with the New You Plan, as soon as I started, the weight began coming off and I felt like a different person.
The Day I Said “Enough Is Enough”

Rachael: What made you click on that Facebook ad?
Tracey: The people looked real. It didn’t look like actors or models. It looked like genuine, everyday people. I thought, “If they can do it, I’m going to give it a go.”
I’ve now lost six stone. I was just one pound over my original goal, but I’ve set myself a new target to lose another stone this year and I know I will, because I’ve found it so easy to follow.
Rachael: What approach are you following?
Tracey: Meal replacement drinks work best for me. I’m a chocoholic, so I mostly have chocolate shakes, and I love the porridge too.
The biggest change is that I never skip breakfast anymore. I used to go to work, have coffee, biscuits, chocolate. Chocolate was my downfall. Now I have a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, and a high-protein dinner like fish or chicken with vegetables. And I drink loads of water.
I don’t feel hungry. That’s the strange thing. I used to constantly think about food. What’s for tea, what can I have at 3pm but I don’t anymore. I’ve never been like this in my life.
Physical & Confidence Changes

Rachael: What changes have you noticed physically?
Tracey: I can run up the stairs at work now. I walk the dog without pain in my knees or back. I can cross my legs, I’ve never been able to do that before.
Clothes have been a huge thing for me. I used to hate shopping. I was a size 20–22 and always bought baggy clothes to hide. Now I’m a size 12–14. This jumper I’m wearing is a size small. I would never have believed that a year ago.
I even bought jeans before Christmas for the first time since I was sixteen years old. Instead of hiding in leggings and oversized tops, I feel comfortable. I feel healthy. I feel like a completely different person.

Rachael: Have you experienced any health improvements?
Tracey: Yes and this is the biggest thing for me. I had high blood pressure and was on medication for over twenty years. Three months ago, I came off it. I had my check-up yesterday, and my blood pressure is completely normal.
After being on medication for over twenty years, I’m now medication-free. To me, that’s what this is all about, the health side of it.
It honestly feels like a new life.
Rachael: How has your mindset changed?
Tracey: I don’t want to go back to how I was before. There’s no way.
Even over Christmas, I came off plan briefly, but I started again Monday and lost 4½ pounds in one week because I was 100% committed. I know this works for me.
My tastes have changed too. I used to grab chocolate at petrol stations without thinking. Now I don’t even consider it. I drink black coffee. I drink lots of water. I enjoy protein meals. I don’t crave junk food anymore.
You really do change, physically and mentally.
Reactions From Family & Friends
Rachael: What have people said?
Tracey: When I went home to Bristol, my brother said, “Wow, how much weight have you lost?” Years ago, he’d told me I needed to do something about my weight, and it hurt at the time. So for him to say I looked amazing meant so much.
When people notice, it gives you such a boost. It makes you want to keep going.

Rachael: What would you say to someone considering starting?
Tracey: It fits your lifestyle. You can switch between plans and make it work for you. There’s flexibility.
The range is huge! Shakes, drinks, flavours. You don’t get bored. The packaging is lovely, and there are always little touches like samples to try.
And the customer service is excellent. I had a parcel go missing once, and the team were so helpful and quick to respond.
It just works.

Goal Setting & The Future
Rachael: How did you approach your goals?
Tracey: I set small targets, stone by stone. I didn’t focus on losing six stone all at once. I focused on getting from 17 to 16, then 15, and so on. That made it manageable.
I reached 11 stone 6, and now my next goal is to get into the 10 stone range. I’m not looking to go lower than that. I just want to feel healthy and comfortable
Rachael: If you could sum up your journey in one sentence?
Tracey: Thank you. I just wish I’d found it sooner.
Rachael: And what are you doing with your prize money?
Tracey: We’re going to the Lake District for a long weekend and I’m buying more clothes!
Good luck to everyone starting this year. It really does work. 💛
