A Sedentary Lifestyle is often referred to being a couch potato.  It can be easy to slip into lazy habits, so let’s take a look at what lying up on the sofa is doing to us, our health, our mood and our waistline.

WIKIPEDIA INTRODUCTION ON SEDENTARY LIFESTYLE…
A sedentary lifestyle is a type of lifestyle with no or irregular physical activity. A person who lives a sedentary lifestyle may colloquially be known as a couch potato. It is commonly found in both the developed and developing world. Sedentary activities include sitting, reading, watching television, playing video games, and computer use for much of the day with little or no vigorous physical exercise. A sedentary lifestyle can contribute to many preventable causes of death. Screen time is the amount time a person spends watching a screen such as a television, computer monitor, or mobile device. Excessive screen time is linked to negative health consequences
If you are obese and inactive, the thought of getting slim and active can feel overwhelming and almost impossible.

Trust me EVERYONE feels this way.

But you see the stories all the time, of people who have got slim and got active.  Everyone of these people at some point felt that this was overwhelming or not possible for them.

The secret is to get started small and build in the habit and then build on that.

If you do no exercise at all then start with walking, pick a landmark that is 5 minutes from your house, go and walk to it and walk home again.  The next day pick something that is 10 minutes from your house, walk to it and walk home again, do that everyday.  The next week pick something that is 15 minutes from your house, walk to it and walk home again.  After 3 weeks of walking everyday, you will feel your energy levels increase and you will be aiming to walk more and more.  It takes 21 days to form a habit, give yourself the gift of forming a new healthy active habit.

sallyOne of our Secret Slimmers called Sally posted in this week that she was just back into the house, feeling great after a 9 mile walk.

A few months ago she was obese and never did any walking or exercising.  Now she is walking everyday!  Sally is 7 pounds away from her goal of losing 4 stone.

If you spoke to Sally a few months ago and asked her would she be walking for 9 miles in the morning, she probably would have looked at you with shock!

Everyone starts small, the important thing is to build in the habit.  Just get out and go for a short walk today, and then tomorrow do the same, slowly build it up and soon you will be looking forward to your walk and wanting to go further.

If walking isn’t for you then find some thing that it is.  The most important thing to do is commit to leaving the sedentary lifestyle behind.  You don’t want that to be part of your identity… create your new you, and build activity into your new you lifestyle.  You will look better and feel better for it.

If you are determined to get and stay slim building exercise into your week is SO IMPORTANT, as well as the obvious health benefits, it will help you to burn more calories, build muscle (which is important for weight loss), it will also help you to feel better about yourself, help to lift your mood, keep you away from the fridge, relieve boredom, build your self esteem and confidence, help to give you tone and definition, and much more!

If you take action and decide to get active, this will also have a positive impact on the people you love, your partner, friends, family, and children, will all be inspired by your action.  Everyone needs someone to inspire them (read this blog post on inspiration on how you can be the person that inspires others), so take it upon yourself to be the leader that inspires other people!

Use your time on the new you plan to build in these healthy active habits, make this transformation an amazing one that changes you and sets you up for a healthier more active lifestyle.  If you are very overweight the thought of doing anything might feel really scary but you will see a big difference on the scales in short period of time if you follow the new you plan total food replacement plan.  This is why it gives so many people the confidence and motivation to get out there and get moving and build their fitness.
