Celebrating Your Wins No Matter the Size!

People who haven’t had to live with being overweight don’t realise the challenges that people who have lived with it face on a daily basis. Society has been built around the average Joe which means that if you are heavier than that, navigating simple things such as using a public toilet can be difficult, stressful and embarrassing.

The things that people on the thinner side take for granted are often the things that those who carry more weight struggle with every day.

Because losing weight takes work, here at New You, we believe that you should celebrate every little hurdle that you overcome due to your success. After all, no matter the size of the achievement, they are big wins in your life and you should be proud. It is a big deal!

What are your wins?

There are countless things that you could consider as a win but here are just a few that you might relate to.

  • Entering a new stone bracket.
  • Going down a clothes size.
  • Binning that bra extender.
  • Being able to wear your wedding ring on your finger again rather than keeping it on a chain around your neck.
  • No longer having to request a seat belt extender on your holiday flight.
  • Having the flexibility to clean every part of your body with ease.
  • No longer wondering whether you are too heavy for that comfy looking chair.
  • Finding that chub rub is no longer an issue when walking and running.
  • You no longer feel people are watching you while you eat.
  • Being able to paint your own toenails and tie your shoelaces.
  • Finding clothes that fit you properly.
  • Navigating public toilet stalls without the fear of getting stuck.
  • Being able to fit into fashionable shoes.
  • No longer needing medication for a weight-related condition.
  • Finding you can now give full-on bear hugs.
  • Discovering that you no longer need a sit down after tackling some stairs.

How can you celebrate?

So you’ve had a weight-loss win and life has just become easier, so how do you celebrate? Well, obviously you’re not going to treat yourself to something considered as a blip as that’s counterproductive. You want to give yourself something that you will appreciate. It’s good to have a list of things that you can gift yourself in celebration. That way you can get instant gratification from your win which will supply you with all the motivation you need until you hit the next one.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Buy yourself a new outfit or even go on a shopping spree for a new wardrobe.
  • Have a pampering spa day.
  • Get a mani-pedi.
  • Have your hair done.
  • Treat yourself to a new piece of jewellery.
  • Book a photoshoot.
  • Take yourself off to the theatre in the city.
  • Try something you’ve always wanted to do, like an experience day.
  • Book a long weekend away.
  • Buy yourself some beauty products.
  • Take some time for yourself for a little self-care. Read, have a home spa day or do absolutely nothing – as long as it’s bliss to you.
  • Spend a day with your favourite people at your favourite location.
  • Purchase a new book.
  • Go to the cinema.
  • Buy yourself some flowers.
  • Invest in a new fitness tracker.
  • Treat yourself to a new handbag, man bag, purse or wallet.
  • Hire someone to clean your house.
  • Buy a new plant for your garden.
  • Buy tickets for a concert.
  • Spend a weekend amongst nature.

The possibilities are endless! Obviously, you can choose the size of your celebration in accordance with the size that you feel your win is.

Congratulating yourself by doing something you enjoy is so important as it enforces your feelings of pride, validates your achievement and boosts your motivation.
