Team Tips Tuesday – Track Your Progress:
*Results may vary. This is not a guarantee
Welcome to Team Tips Tuesday! 🙂 The purpose of today is making sure that you track your progress correctly and effectively to ensure that you are able to set the right goals and enjoy the benefits of the confidence boost that comes with getting to these goals!
Muscle Weighs More than Fat
For those of you who have joined a gym, you may find that the scales do not appear to favour you as much as some of the other people on the plan. The reason for this is that muscle weighs so much more than fat. The result of going to the gym therefore may be a slight skew in your achievements. In these instances it is important that you take measurements of your chest, waist, tops of your arms and legs to show that the results are still being achieved.[divider_flat]
How does your clothing fit?
Another Tip which is very similar is just simply noticing the change in how your clothing fits. Don’t let the scales fool you – if there are changes in the way your clothing fits, it is not because your clothes are getting larger, it is because you are getting smaller!
Goals Allow you to Exceed Expectations
Using these indicators and tracking them can be really useful not only to give you and idea of how far you have come, but it can also be translated into goals that allow you to exceed your current expectations. For instance you may say to yourself at the start of the plan, my first goal is to buy a smaller fitting pair of jeans. This may not put you at your target weight but it will provide you with an achievable milestone that spurs you on the rest of the way!
Today’s Task
I am going to keep it simple today. All I am going to ask you to do is tell me how you are tracking your weight loss and what milestones you have set yourself!

I have a jacket that when i started it came to the outside of my boobs 😉 now it is meeting in the middle. So i know i have lost inches. The scales i love because when i see even a 1lb loss it spurs me on to see another & another .
Brilliant Barbara 🙂 this is fantastic!
I have 8-9 stone to lose and that seems like a long road so I literally take it day by day ,arrive at weigh in day ,and again day by day, little steps to my goal,I think u can be very hard on yourself if yu are not mindful of the fact that every day is a baby step ,but still a positive step to goal .i am breaking my journey into 2,small break at Xmas and back then until match/April
I recorded my losses in a notepad and I look at it to see the weight going down
A very practical and methodical approach Sinead – a sure fire winner!
I am tracking my weightloss by the scales, but the goal is related to tracking it. I have a coat that wont button up and I am watching it get closer and closer to buttoning. I also have a dress that I love but can’t wait until it is way too big for me. It is already looser in just one week!
It will get there Fiona and then you will have to move onto the next one!
Sounds sill but every week since I started I get my son to check if his hands touch each other when he hugs me. Nearly there he tells me so when iv achieved that then il set another goal. : )
Love it Amanda – miles stone and a brilliant motivator all rolled into one!
i use my scales. tape mesure to as i can see the lbs and inches dropping of. allso i have some trousers that i have never worn as they were to small but each time i try them on the fastner get closer together.
And presto Lisa, soon they will fit – just like that 😉 Keep it up
I have a winter coat which is tight around the waist so I will be tracking how loose it can get from now till christmas…that will definitely spur me on.
I am doing this, my coat felt alittle tight early auturm , know more comfortable x
Good luck Devinia, you are going to get there! 🙂 Thanks for the ongoing support!
Having lost 4 stone , my husband has told me I am smaller in the bed 🙂
What he means is when he comes into the room he has to double check I am
Lying in the bed, where as before I was a BIG HEAP in the bed and could be seen 🙂
See NEW me …..smaller lump ! Love it
Love this Julie – the small personal things really matter!
Two ways I am tracking my weight loss by the scales and also the clothes I went up in weight with. As my weight goes down I get out the next size clothes and started working my way down the sizes. xx
Awesomne Wendy – I am sure every day is giving you the evidence you need to see the change!
I have a pair of jeans that i have had for 6 years never worn them i keep trying them on but can,t do them up hopefully i will do i next week.the problem is when i get into them i will have to bye a new pair.x
Super Mandy – I am sure that will be money you are happy to spend!
I write my weight weekly on a chart do my inches monthly but still trying to focus on weeks at 100%,and in between I try on smaller clothes to boost me ,and joining in challenges and seeing my name on leader board gives me massive incentive to keep going:-) 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
I am tracking in two ways 1. The scales and BMI and 2. My clothes especially notches on my jeans belt.
Woohoo Tracy – you are really on top of this! Keep going 🙂
I just go day by day
Keep it up John! 🙂 I am sure you will nail your goals!
I’m tracking my progress by my Christmas party dress I couldn’t fit in it three weeks ago can fit in it now but still a bit tight so a few more pounds to go x
Woohoo Jackie, great way to do this and I am sure you will get there really soon!
Im using an app called weight diary. Half way to my goal of a stone off now.
This is great Mary 🙂 I am sure you are going to get there in no time!
Now I have lost mostofthe weight, I go buy my jeans. I do weigh in each week but its a great feeling when your jeans get looser each
It is an amazing feeling Nicola 🙂 I am over the moon you are so close to your goal!
I use a wee app called Simple Weight Recorder and weigh in every monday morning. Using this I can eadily see my weekly loss, overall loss and pounds left to target! Its a great app and best of all its f r e e!
I also use a countdown app in which I can place a countdown widget on my mobile. When I am planning a big night out I set the date of the event on the widget and everyday it counts down showing how many days left I have before my outing and days left to refeed etc. I also normally buy a new dress if I am going out so this is a great way to motivate me esp if the dress is a size too small or feels tight. By tracking my weight and days to my event I have a continual visual reminder to help keep me focused.
These are great Lorna 🙂 Definitely going to keep you on track!
I use the scales, the tape measure and how loose my clothes fit.! xx
Awesome Mags 🙂 Thanks for the ongoing support!
I am also using an app to track weightloss and my bmi.
I’ve just been able to get into a pair of trousers that were too tight before I started.
My next mini goal is to get into a non-stretchy top in current size.
And then the drumroll moment of being a size down . . . .
Alison this is fantastic! Great way to track progress and stay motivated!
Phone apps, weight, and measurement and by clothes not fitting 🙂
I update 3 apps my fitness pal because I love when it tells me what I’ll be in 5 weeks if I keep up the good work! 🙂
Happy scales because it shows me how many mile stones I have achieved 🙂
Body track as it stores my measurements and shows me on a little model where I have come from and too!!!
Very precise way of keeping track and staying motivated Kelly 🙂 Thanks for the support!
I track my weight on the scales and with a tape measure. I record it all on a spreadsheet.
I also use the spreadsheet from the blog tips which is really good to show you how you bmi changes each week together with your percentage loss and the change each week towards your goal. I find it very motivating.
I work outside, so i can judge how much i have lost by how many extra layers i need to wear to keep warm, and now actually fit under my jeans and coat! ;D
Love this Wendy – the last part can be part of tomorrows WOW Wednesday!
I am starting tomorrow when my post arrives! 😀 can not wait but I am going to be doing in stones! I will be putting 14 gems into into a jar every time I loose a pound I will put t into a empty jar when all 14 are in the new jar I will treat myself 😀 x
This is a Julie Ann classic Emma and it will serve you well – great tracking and motivation tool as it lets you see how far you have come! Good Luck Emma 🙂
I am racking several ways , scales , measuring tape and I log it on a weight loss sheet I did up , BUT my favouite way is my clothes fit . My jeans are looser and my walking rain jacket that WAS tight to zi up , is now loose and I can fit a thicker top under it – happpy days 🙂
I am just going to repeat what I just posted as I seen all my spelling mistakes ! I track several different ways – scales , measuring tape , and I log it on a weight loss shett I did up , BUT my favourite way is the way my clothes fit – my jeans are looser and my walking rain jacket that WAS tight is now loose and I can fit a thicker top under it – happy days 🙂
Never fear Jennifer my spelling is atrocious even when I am checking so you are in friendly territory 🙂 Great tracking tools – great to be able to have extra layers in winter – Thanks for the support 🙂
My favourite way is but clothes also have pair knee high boot which wudnt even fasten at ankle each weeek try them on and each week the are zipping further, about an inch to go woohoo lol
Great Christine – these are just the kinds of mini milestones that will act as motivators for you further down the line 🙂
I weigh myself but more than anything I love trying on clothing that has previously been too tight and it is very satisfying watching it close for the first time.
Woohoo Annie – may there be many more moments like this! 🙂
I track my weight by keeping a journal app on my ipad. I keep a note of what products I’ve had and how much water I’ve drank. I also ‘borrow’ the quote pictures that people put up in the ss group and put one on each page of my journal. I have set lots of mini goals for myself and reaching them spurs me on to the next one. I try to lose half a stone at a time but my other mini goals are to do with points in my life. I’m currently at my mini goal of weighing the same as I did after I had baby number 2. My next mini goal is to reach the weight I was before baby number 2 and that is 1 stone away…hopefully I’ll be there by Christmas!!! 🙂 x
WOW Clare, with this strategy you will most certainly be there by Christmas!!
i use myfitnesspal.com. there are a fair few of us on the site now, so their library is full of ny products. all i have to do is type in the name of a product, and click add. it’s also good because i can track my exercise as well so that i don’t go into too much of a calorie deficit.
The main way I track my weight is by standing on the scales. I am standing on them every day which I shouldnt really, but I get excited. The best thing is when I notice my clothes getting looser- that is great, a real feel good factor 🙂
I will be using my NY journal to when I start the 2nd 3 week cycle of The Christmas Challenge- feel excited about doing that. 🙂
Fantastic Aimee – the scales can sometimes throw you, especially if you use them every day. It is great that you are tacking this from other angles to keep the momentum up!
I track my weight every day on the scales. I have a top I bought last year never fitted. A size 20 from Dunnes- nothing special but it’s a little milestone when it fits- then I will move on to my next mini goal. X
Keep it up Brenda – you will defeat that top soon! Then bring on the next goal 🙂
I use the scales and I keep a record on my app called simple weight .
Am actually going to do the drop a jean size, my journal arrived today, so going to go take my measurement now!!
Awesome Margaret, these are some sure fire tools to help you track your progress. The journal helps with more than just the weight loss – I know you are going to love it!
I track my losses by using the scales weekly, but most of all feeling good in my clothes even if the scales does not move is more motivational for me, I have a pair of jeans that are ten years old and they go up but are still too tight, when they fit like a glove that will be my ultimate goal x
I know you are going to nail this Karen, you have done so well with us and we have all loved watching you move forward. Keep it up!
By feeling of my clothes and numbers going down ion my bmi chart x
Awesome Rachael 🙂
I track by the number if compliments I receive !!!
Well done Susi – you are awesome 🙂 hope that one counts!
By my clothes – and people noticing (it’s the best :)) xx
Fantastic Siobhan 🙂 keep going!
I have a pair of jeans size 14 that I wore twice when I lost weight over a year ago – really want to get back into them! I have taken all my measurements and am weighing daily ( I know I probably shouldn’t) haha
I’m using the journal too – love the fact you can track your mood 🙂
Julz thinks of everything :)You are going to blitz this!
I am writing in my journal each day, and recording my weights and measurements weekly.
Great Jasmin, thanks for all the support here on the blog – I know you are going to get there and your journal is going to turn in to an epic autobiography!
I’m tracking it by the scales, bmi chart and my clothes!! Went from a 14/16 to my first ever size 8’s!!! Woo hoo and went from obese to healthy yippee xx
All great ways Kathleen 🙂 WOOOHOOO on the achievements thus far you are smashing it!
Through my very precious notebook, that has all tips, weight losses, inspirational quotes, photos in it… I log every week and set goals every week too, it feels so good when you tick one off….
Great Paula – records provide definitive results!
I am tracking my weight loss by weighing in once a week , I also place a shell in a jar for every pound I lose . Its great to see them building up .
I am enjoying buying new clothes and thinking they wont fit but they do !! woohoo 😀
Well done Oonagh you have blitzed this – amazing changes by the way!!!! loved the photos
Along with the conventional weighing, measuring, I have a fabulous pair of black trousers which I wore pre-children (7 years ago), and now they are pulling up over my bum…..our journey began and ended above the knees 28 days ago!! when I can close these trousers I will happily spend money on a fab xmas dress.
EPIC Aisling 🙂 have to show the NY team what it looks like!
I am weighing in once a week but also took lots of measurements which I plan to do every 4 weeks x
Keep it up Lisa – this will go a long way to motivate you!
I track my progress by recording everything in my journal.. I write down how I feel everyday ! I also take my measurements and monitor how my clothes fit 🙂 . I also weigh on scales once a week.
Well done Sandra – keep it up it will provide you with so much to reflect on later!
