When Kevin started The New You Plan, his goal was bigger than just weight loss – he wanted to feel better for himself, be more present for his family, and make a long-term lifestyle change. After losing over 6 stone and reclaiming his energy and confidence, Kevin was named the Best Family Focused Transformation in our May/June Challenge and awarded £1000 cash. He started the plan alongside his wife, and together they’ve transformed not just their health, but their whole home life.

Here, Kevin opens up about what led him to start, how he’s made the plan work as a busy dad, and what advice he’d give to anyone starting their journey.

How much weight have you lost so far, and what is your overall goal?

I’ve lost just over 6 stone now, and that’s around 40% of where I want to be. My ultimate goal is to get down to about 12 stone, so I still have around 8 stone to go – but I’m well on my way.

What led you to start The New You Plan, and how were you feeling when you began?

I’d done a similar diet 15 years ago and lost a lot of weight. I was really active back then. But life happened – my wife and I had children, I had a few injuries, and gradually the weight crept back on. In the last few years, I put on about 3 stone more and became the heaviest I’d ever been.

I considered all sorts of options – calorie-controlled diets, injections, even bariatric surgery. But then I found The New You Plan, and it just felt right. It was simple to use – no group meetings or reps, just an easy online order, delivered straight to your door. Plus, the online community really stood out. The support and encouragement in the Secret Slimmers group has been amazing – that wasn’t something I had 15 years ago.

You started the plan with your wife – how has that been?

Yes, we started together, and it’s been brilliant. She’s doing a slightly different version of the plan and has lost around 3 stone so far. We’re still cooking for the kids, which can be tricky, but having that shared goal has really helped keep us both on track.

Temptation is always around in a family kitchen, but once you get through the first few days – especially day four – things get easier. It becomes routine. You learn to plan ahead and stay focused.

How did your first week on plan go?

It was tough at first. We had planned to start a week later, but after seeing posts from others in the community, we just decided to go for it. The first few days were the hardest. Day three and four especially – the cravings hit, and your body’s adjusting.

But once you push through, it all clicks. Water, tea, and distraction really help. After day four, I felt better, and my routine fell into place. My energy started coming back by week four – just in time for our family trip to Centre Parcs. That would have been a struggle before, but I felt amazing. I was cycling, swimming, walking… it made a massive difference not just to me, but to my family.

What has being on plan taught you?

It’s completely changed how I think about food and exercise. Before, we’d overeat, feel guilty, and then just carry on like nothing happened. Now, I pay attention to portion sizes, hydration, and balance.

It’s also taught me to plan better – meals, water, everything. And it’s reminded me that your mindset is everything. My cravings are down, and I genuinely feel more in control.

What are your favourite New You products?

I love the Spaghetti Bolognese – that’s a go-to. The Strawberry and White Chocolate Bar is amazing, and the Raspberry and White Chocolate shake too.

I also found that my tastes changed depending on the season. In the colder months, I leaned more toward savoury Meals and Porridge. Now in summer, I prefer Shakes and Bars — they’re lighter and refreshing.

The Crisps are a great on-the-go snack too. They’ve saved me more than once!

Have you had any non-scale victories or memorable moments since losing 6 stone?

So many! I’ve dropped three clothes sizes and now shop in stores I couldn’t fit into before. I used to be at the top end of M&S sizing, but now I’m down two sizes and can shop in Next and other high street stores again.

One standout moment was someone on the school run complimenting me. It wasn’t a close friend or family member – just someone I knew a little – and that kind of unsolicited comment really meant a lot. It made me realise how far I’ve come.

How has your activity changed since losing weight?

Right now, I’m focusing on walking and swimming – lower-impact stuff – while I’m on plan. I’ve seen some great advice in the group about not overdoing it too early.

Once I reach my goal or transition into Switch, I’m really looking forward to running and getting back into more intense workouts. But for now, I’m listening to my body and building my fitness back gradually.

What are you most looking forward to when you reach your goal?

We’ve got a family holiday to Florida coming up, and even with the weight I’ve lost so far, I know it’s going to be a completely different experience. I’m excited to fit on rides, keep up with the kids, and just enjoy it all so much more.

After that, I’ll be shifting into the next phase of the journey – building more strength, fitness, and seeing where I can take this.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give yourself?

I’d have started sooner! But really, the best advice is: there’s no time like the present.

Get started. Don’t overthink it. Once you do, you’ll be amazed at how quickly the results come. At the start, everything can feel daunting – but it’s worth it. Buy a scale. Face the truth. And then take action.

The transformation hasn’t just changed my life – it’s changed my family’s life too. And that’s priceless.
