Claire’s journey is the perfect example of perseverance paying off. After years of ups and downs, she committed fully to her transformation – and the results speak for themselves. She’s now 6st 7lbs lighter, full of energy, and loving life with her two young boys.

Claire’s incredible progress and determination earned her the title of “Bounce Back Brilliance: Best Perseverance Transformation” in our March–April Transformation Challenge, along with a well-deserved £1000 cash prize.

In this inspiring interview, Claire opens up about the highs, the lows, and the mindset shifts that helped her succeed. If you’ve ever felt like giving up, this one’s for you.

Getting Started: The Turning Point

Emma: So how much weight have you lost and what is your overall goal?

Claire: So it’s been a long journey for me, but I’ve lost literally 6st 7lbs as of this morning. That was really, really cool to see! It’s been 3st in the last four months, so I’ve really been pushing towards the end now.
When I think about that much weight, I’m like, oh my gosh – that’s more than my five-year-old weighs. It’s crazy. And he’s heavy!

Emma: What led you to starting the plan, and how were you feeling when you began?

Claire: I’ve known about The New You Plan since 2018. I wasn’t big back then – I just wanted to lose a bit of weight, and it worked really well. So it’s always been something I’ve returned to when I wanted to lose weight.

After my second child, I got really heavy. You know when they say you’re “eating for two” during pregnancy? It was probably more like eating for two busloads, to be honest! Because I knew The New You Plan had worked before, I came back to it. I knew it was effective – it was just a case of sticking with it.

I’d often pause for a holiday, so for me it was like three steps down, one step up. But even with the stops and starts, I still lost the weight. So I’m happy with that.

The Transformation Experience

Emma: How did you feel when you found out you were a winner?

Claire: Oh my god – it was crazy! I got a missed call, and the day before, I’d won Diet For Free points in the Facebook group. So I thought the call was about that.

But then your colleague said, “I just want to tell you you’re a winner.” I couldn’t believe it. I really wasn’t expecting it. I was SO made up.

The day before, I’d been clothes shopping because nothing fit me – and I spent a fortune! So hearing I’d won? It felt like the universe was paying me back for those new clothes!

Emma: How did your first week on plan go? Any highs or lows?

Claire: The first week is always really hard. I just made sure I had enough water and stuck to my routine.
My lifesaver was having a pack of crisps each day – that helped so much. I’d spread out the four packs and that snack across the day.

You do sometimes get a headache around day two or three, but if you power through, it gets easier.
I weighed myself daily that first week, and it was so motivating to see it dropping. It helped me stick with it.

It’s never completely plain sailing – you still get tempted – but if you stick to it, it works.

Daily Life & Non-Scale Victories

Emma: How has your life changed since starting the plan?

Claire: So much! Being a mum of two energetic boys, I just wanted to be able to do more with them.
We went to a fairground, and I couldn’t fit in the dodgems with my eldest before. That really upset me. But recently, we went back – and I fit in. That moment meant the world.

Another random thing: sleeping is different! Now I can feel my knees and hip bones. Before, everything was cushioned!

It’s those little changes that remind you how far you’ve come.

And chasing after my boys? Now I can run after them and not feel like I’m going to collapse.

Emma: Do you feel more confident in your clothes now?

Claire: Absolutely. I used to live in big, flowy dresses and leggings. That was my uniform. Now I’m following fashion influencers, trying on new styles, and experimenting. I never thought I’d wear wide-leg jeans – and now I do! It’s so exciting seeing how different clothes fit my new body shape.

Emma: What has being on plan taught you?

Claire: That consistency really does bring results. I’ve been really consistent since January, and that’s made all the difference. Before, if I had a small loss or stayed the same, I’d get discouraged and blip. But now I know to just keep going. Even if I blip one day, I don’t let it turn into a week or month. I just dust myself off and get back on track. That’s been a huge mindset shift for me.

Claire’s Advice, Wins & What’s Next

Emma: What products could you not live without on plan?

Claire: Oh, 100% the Crispy Caramel Bar – I’m obsessed. The Salt & Vinegar Crisps? I have to lock them away from my kids! The Ham and Mushroom Soup is my daily lunch, and I love the Chocolate Orange Shake – it reminds me of a childhood treat. I literally order the same few things over and over because they’re my go-tos.

Emma: What are you most looking forward to as you reach your goal?

Claire: I’m still about 1st 7lbs from where I want to be. But I’m excited to keep going. This summer, we’re going to Snowdon. No climbing with a toddler, of course, but I’m looking forward to walks and feeling fit. And yes… more clothes shopping too!

Emma: Any lovely compliments or memories that stand out since losing weight?

Claire: Yes – this one just melts me. I had a new outfit on and my little boy said, “Mummy, you look like an advert.” That just made me tear up.

And friends have been so kind – saying things like, “You’re looking well” instead of just commenting on weight. It’s really up-lifting.

Emma: Any favourite non-scale victories?

Claire: In my final photo, I’m wearing an old spotty dress. Years ago, I made it bigger by moving a button.
Now? I’ve had to move the button back to make it tighter again. That was such a lovely moment – it really showed how far I’ve come.

Emma: If you could go back to the start of your journey, what would you tell yourself?

Claire: To have more self-belief. And stop comparing yourself to others in the Secret Slimmers group.
Everyone’s on their own journey. I used to get down seeing how fast others were losing. But now I know – this is my journey. My speed. My success. And that’s okay.
