A study published in the journal, Health Affairs has revealed that dieters given weight-loss support through social media shifted more pounds. Experts studied more than 1,800 people with a body mass index over 30 — classed as obese. Half were given online help from medics and other slimmers on sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
They did better than patients who simply saw their GP, losing an extra 0.64 on average from their BMI. Experts say social media could be key in tackling the obesity epidemic.
Health policy expert Dr Hutan Ashrafian, from Imperial College London, said: “The use of social media encourages patients to be more pro-active and empowers them to contribute towards their own treatment.”

Hi, I have a very large amount of weight to lose but unsure how to use the shakes etc….. Do you just have the four/five food packs a day or just two / three shakes etc & a regular evening meal? My sister Jane and I decided to make a difference to our lives and have started the total plan together.

I have just stared the diet and I am struggling to eat the meals as I find them very filling. I have had a shake, chips and bar of chocolate for the past couple of days and I am hoping someone can tell me if this is enough to still guarantee weight loss.
Also is going to the gym and doing weights going to make a difference in the actual amount of weight I lose as I don’t tend to lose as much weight when i am training 3/4 times a week.
Hi Carmen, you do need to consume a minimum of the 4 meal replacement products a day as otherwise you will not be having enough calories as well as the nutrients, vitamins and minerals. It takes 4 products to give you the 100% of your RDA’s. If you are exercising as well we would also advise to actually have an additional product on these days to counteract the extra calories you are burning off. This is because you do need a minimum amount in order to stay in Ketosis.

If you are over 17 stone you need to have 5 meal replacement products per day (These are Shakes, Meals, Breakfast, Soups and Bars)
If you are under 17 Stone you need to have 4 meal replacement products per day (These are Shakes, Meals, Breakfast, Soups and Bars)
We recommend you stick to consuming 1 bar a day by limiting this bar you will experience faster weight loss.
You can have optional snacks – these are Crisps, Tortilla’s, Biscuits, Wafers, Chorizo, Gummies, Crackers, Cookies and Snack bars, please refer to individual snack guidelines.
We recommend you drink 2.5 and 4 l of water per day this helps speed up your metabolism

Hi I started my journey a week ago and I have lost 7 lbs delighted to say. I find I am having hunger pangs as I was always a snacker and my energy levels really low. Can you advise if this is normal as the other guys seem to be saying they are feeling full?
I’ve just ordered my starters pack, I’m over 17st so I understand I would be having 5 meal replacements a day, are the 1 daily snack additional or would I be replacing one of my 5 meal replacements for a snack? thanks.
