Good Afternoon!

I am on Day 2 of a 66 Day 5am Club Challenge! I am delighted that some people in secret slimmers have decided to join me with my early morning routine. 

Did you know that a recent scientific study established that it takes 66 days to install a new habit?

Today, I share with you WHY THIS INFORMATION IS SO IMPORTANT for both your weight loss journey, and for your maintenance journey….

Phillippa Lally is a health psychology researcher at University College London. In a study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, Lally and her research team decided to figure out just how long it actually takes to form a habit. Their research showed that it takes the average person 66 days to install a habit.  It used to be thought it was 21 days to form a new habit, but the first 21 days of forming a habit are actually the “combat stage”.  

If you are on total food replacement you will understand this COMBAT STAGE, as the first 21 days you can almost feel at war with yourself and you have to fight hard to stay 100%.

After the first 21 days it becomes much easier, this is true on total food replacement, your mind and body are now totally happy with your decision to refrain from conventional food for a while to allow yourself to get to a healthy weight at a fast speed. 

The first 21 days are the hardest if you are stopping smoking, starting a new exercise routine, starting healthy eating, drinking water, and especially when re-feeding… we need to stay very focused for the first 21 days of any new habit we want to install.

After 21 days the COMBAT STAGE IS OVER. You feel more settled, the next stage lasts 45 days, and this is the NEW INSTALLATION PHASE.

Building new habits and new mindsets is like rebuilding a new house on the same site.  First of all we have to tear down all the walls and structure that held the first house in place, and then we need to start a new building, with new structures and new walls.  This is our new house for our new habits and mindsets.

After a total of 66 days it will be harder for you NOT to do the habit than it will be for you to DO IT.
