After losing an incredible 6st, Sarah didn’t just stop when she hit her goal weight – she kept going, evolving, and embracing a brand-new lifestyle. Now 8 months into maintenance, she’s living proof that the real transformation isn’t just about what you lose… it’s about everything you gain.

Sarah, how long have you been maintaining your 6st weight loss?

I’ve been maintaining for just over 8 months and still going strong. I have lost 6st over the course of 14 months on the plan. It has completely changed my life. I am happier, fitter, healthier and lighter. The New You Plan has given me my life back to enjoy. I look forward to continuing my transformation journey and discovering the art of muscle toning! 

What were the biggest mental shifts you had to make during that transition?

I had to stop thinking maintenance isn’t about being perfect.  It’s about making daily healthy choices consistently. Weight loss isn’t just about the destination,  it’s feeling proud of every step, no matter how small.

What has maintaining taught you about your relationship with food and your body?

I have learnt to listen to my body more & I can recognise emotional eating triggers more clearly and deal with them. I’ll regularly remind myself why I started on this plan and continue to avoid using food as a reward or comfort, finding non-food ways to care for myself instead, such as walking, gym/spa or even running!  

How do you handle challenges or blips now that you’re in maintenance?

Blips happen, but I don’t let one bad day turn into a bad week. I check in with myself, make a plan, and move forward. Sometimes that means going back to a few days on total plan to reset. I continue to exercise self discipline and distract myself away from temptations by keeping busy/finding things to do, and I strictly avoid visiting the scales on a daily basis!

What New You Plan meals or snacks still feel like staples in your routine?

I enjoy most New You Plan meals on maintenance, but the ones which keep me stapled in my routine are Irish Stew, Cottage Pie, Caramel Muesli, Mushroom Soup, Strawberry and White Chocolate Meal Bars, American Ranch and Nacho Cheese crisps. They are my favourites.

What’s the nicest compliment you’ve received since maintaining your loss?

The nicest compliment I have received is “‘Wow! The first and last photo could be snap shots of mother and daughter. Not only have you lost weight, it looks to me like you’ve lost 20 years”!

A friend also commented I look really at peace and happy in myself. That meant a lot to me as it showed they saw the inner transformation in me too.

If you could speak to someone about to finish the plan, what would you tell them?

Don’t fear maintenance, it’s not the end of your journey at all. It is the beginning of your freedom, confidence and happiness. Be very proud of what you have achieved and keep using what the plan taught you. You might stumble, but you have built the tools to pick yourself back up. Stay connected to the amazing support groups and Secret Slimmers community, it keeps you connected and really helps to keep you accountable and on track.
