New Year New You Week 2 Task

Tips to use milestones and rewards to get results on

A Very Low Calorie Diet VLCD

14-01

The theory behind this weeks Task | The right rewards keep you focused on a VLCD

Today is all about setting yourself mile stone goals and and appropriate rewards to keep you motivated on our VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet). Your milestones should be set in such a way that they get progressively harder and can be properly tracked. This combined with the right rewards means that you should have an even drive to succeed throughout your journey.

For instance on our diet, the process of getting into ketosis is the hardest part of the diet but thankfully it is also the shortest part taking roughly only a week to achieve. This puts the milestone and the reward into perspective. On a ketogenic VLCD diet your first milestone has to be ketosis. Given the importance and the slightly higher degree of difficulty make the reward something fairly large.

The next milestone can vary based on your own personal goals – for instance if you have three stone to lose, each stone can be a mile marker for you and for obvious reasons save your greatest reward for the final mile stone.

The task:

I would like to list on the blog wall (so they are set in stone) the milestones you are going to set yourself to track your success through this journey and the appropriate rewards for each mile stone.  Taking the time to think this through is important for so many reasons. The Milestones have to be set up so that they can be achieved in a reasonable timescale and the rewards have to be fitting of the victories to make them worth fighting for.

The benefits/Rewards:

1) You will actively have to visualize each stage of your journey – great for motivation

2) You will break this marathon up into a couple of mini events which is always going to give you the psychological benefits i.e. the distance between the milestones gives the overall impression of the task being smaller and more manageable.

3) The second psychological benefit will be the mini victories that you can celebrate along the way and use to improve morale. A key factor to success on any VLCD.

4) If your rewards are other life goals such as a holiday you can use one goal as a reward for the other thereby reinforcing other important life events

5) If the above was not enough of a reason to do this then this might help spur you on – each week I will take the names of the people who take part task and I will give away the prize you see below which will consist of a weeks worth of our TFR Products, one of our BMI tape measures, a 3 pac of breath strips, one of our Drop a Jean Size Journals and three water flavourings.

This Prize has a value of up to £99.52

well done do the winner 🙂
My first goal is to get to the end of week 1 , and remain positive with all the kind support of new you and my mum who’s also on the plan.

My next bigger goal is to be a smaller size by march the 2nd as I’m going to a christening party and would love to be able to feel good and confident perhaps even in a size smaller.

My next goal after this is to carry on the plan and get into a size 16, which I’ve not been in since i was teenager.

Im not thinking too far ahead, as i want to have the christening party in mind to start with, and getting healthy for my daughter and me .

Congratulations Jasmin on wining the first weeks prize.

With regards to the Milestone task this week.

I have set myself a few goals.

1st – When I have lost 2 stone, my partner is going to buy me a new pair of jeans 🙂

2nd – When I have lost 4 stone , I will be able to have my hip operation as I will have reduced my BMI enough so that it will be safe to do the operation.

3rd – When I have lost 7 stone – I have bought myself a gorgeous outfit for my sons wedding. So when I am 7 stone lighter I will be able to wear it The outfit is a size 16. In fact if it is a bit big I can get it altered smaller 🙂

Oh my goodness, I can’t believe I’ve won the first weeks task !!! How amazing! Thank you so very much New. You, I’m soooo excited. I just want everyone to know how much healthier and better I feel since I’ve been following the plan. My milestones are half a stone at a time….. Much better to break it down into smaller amounts. I hope by summer to have reached my goal, but if not, I will keep going until I do!
I have a personal goal of wanting to wear my engagement ring once again, as it hasn’t fitted me for over 20 years now ……. So that might be a long time off, but I WILL get there.
Once again , thank you for all your kind wishes and I look forward to my exciting bundle arriving !!

At the moment I am working towards fitting back into a special dress for my birthday next month which means my first goal is 21 lbs off. I will then be able to wear the dress to a family wedding and knock the socks of a snotty sod who not only looks down her nose at me but also likes to run marathons for thrills.

My next mile stone is to loose another 10lbs by St Patricks day and dress up as I take part in our local parade.

By the end of April I intend to have reached my final target. I will then post all my before and after pictures. Some of them are not so pretty

    • Author gravatar

Well done Jasmin! I, like you would also love to fit my engagement/wedding ring on again after 11 years.

My first goal is 1 stone first month – I will get a nice dress for my daughters party.(I’m well on my way at the moment)

2nd Stone/second month – Get a nice outfit for my daughters Confirmation and looking good is a reward itself.

3rd Stone/ third month – My husband comes home and I want to take him out maybe bowling.

4th Stone/fourth month – A nice new outfit for my other daughters Communion.

5th Stone/ fifth month – Almost at my goal, maybe treat myself to a massage and facial because I will also be finished my exam.

The last half a stone or so/ refeed 6 month – Buy myself a new wardrobe for my holiday in July to Lanzarote! Where I will have fun with my children on the beach and not be embarrassed to go running, swimming and playing like I use too.
I am feeling really good, got my months supply today and I am feeling great end of day 4. I am enthusiastic and ready to keep going.

My motivation and will power is: I put this weight on having my children who where in my stomach for over 80 weeks together, I can take 6 months or so to reach my goal weight for me!!!!!!

    • Author gravatar

This is a really well thought out plan of action Gina and I really hope this is somewhere else to where you will see it more often. I know that if you keep all this in the forefront of your mind the results will come! Good luck and I am sure the new wardrobe will be yours soon enough.

Last January myself and 2 friends joined a slimming group, i was the heaviest, by 4.5 stone, and 7 stone.
I wished i was either of the others really as i had such a lot to lose. Through some hard work (on and off) i lost over 4 stone and then i lost my way, spend a lot of time saying I’ll get back on track tomorrow.
Anyway now I’m here now, back on track ( thanks to New You i’m totally focussed again) and i hit that first target, I’m the middle weight. Last year i’d have given anything to be here and i’m proud.
I’ve a lot of little goals coming up next big one is another 1.5 stone (the weight i got to when we got married, I had lost weight for that)
Then the 1 more stone to get to the lowest weight from last years weigh in.
When i climb those mountains i’ll re-evaluate, theres another 2 stone after that anyway but its thats my final weight for now, and for the first time ever, i can see it.
My reward for losing weight ….. throwing out the clothes that are too big and getting new clothes. (all my old stuff was well worn because i was waiting to slim to buy more, gosh i was still wearing some maternity tops)

      • Author gravatar

Your next goal will be one that most certainly motivates you Nonie as it has a lot of sentimental value being associated with something as awesome as wedding day 🙂 Your reward for hitting your current overall target is super too. You should start picking out some of your favorites now! Good luck Nonie.

    • Author gravatar

      Congrats to the winner!! 🙂

      Here are my milestones-
my 1st is to loose 1 stone by Valentines weekend, as thats when ill see my fiance for the first time since new years, as he is away in Navy 🙂
2nd one is to loose another stone until our holiday in March, my goal is to get into size 12 bikini 🙂
and my 3rd one is to get the last 1,5 stone down before the 11th of july.. when im gonna become mrs to my lovely fiance 🙂 <3

Im soo exited for 2014!! I feel its gonna be my year 🙂 A lot of changes for the best 🙂

      Good luck to everyone xxx

      • Author gravatar

It is going to be a great Valentines this year Liene and it is awesome that all your goals fall in line with such major life events as these rewards as such are time specific which adds the urgency you need to stay on track. I know it will be your year! 🙂

    • Author gravatar

      Well done winner 🙂
I have 1.5 stones left to lose but I may try for another half if I’m successful…we will see. I have set my self mini goals of 7lbs at a time as this doesn’t overwhelm me. So when I lose the first 7lbs I will be in the next stone bracket and I am going to get my nails done 🙂 Next 7lbs will make it a whole stone lost so I am going to treat myself to some new make up 🙂 Next 7lbs will mean I’m at goal and in the final stone bracket and I am going to go shopping as my partner has said he will treat me!! Can’t wait!!! X

    • Author gravatar

Well ive been giving my milestones a lot of thought and my rewards even more thought! my very first milestone is to reach a loss of 10lbs. By the looks of everyones first and second weigh ins, this shouldn’t prove too difficult I know. However, I have been trying to lose weight for a while now and I can never seem to get past 9lbs!!! ~I always give up, lose patience, switch diets – I have yet to get to – 10lbs!! So my first goal will be a loss of 10lbs then my second to reach -1stone but that’ll be a smaller reward… here it goes:

-10lbs: finally get myself those wine coloured cons I’ve wanted for a while now

-1Stone: treat myself to a wash and blowdry (I’ve very unmanageable hair!)

-2Stone: my friend works for benefit cosmetics, She has promised me a make over and I will allow myself TWO products!

-3Stone: my partner is treating me to a wee pennys/primark shopping spree (It’s important to note that it is a pennys spree as I am only half way through, I’ll leave the high street for final goal!)

-4Stone: New black leather boots (To match the new wardrobe that is on the way…)

      -5Stone: GOAL Shopping spree 🙂

That has really got me excited…. My first batch of products are due to arrive today, Bring it on!!

      Shónagh

      • Author gravatar

These are great milestones and great rewards Shónagh and I am here to make sure that you crack the 9lbs mark on this occasion. The awesome part of this diet is it gains momentum, the little extra you give the more it gives back and soon nothing will stand in your way! Keep it up Shónagh 🙂

    • Author gravatar

1st stone reward is treating myself to a new handbag
2nd stone reward is getting some new clothes (no more living/ hiding in tracksuits)
3rd stone is new hairstyle to get ready for the final loss of 6lb a weekend away in Belfast and some shopping

    • Author gravatar

Well I am back, started my journey this time last year and lost 2 1/2 stone for my sons communion, since then life got in the way and I used it as an excuse and lost my way, needless to say I have gained 1 stone in that time. I have decided that now is my time and life happens and there will always be an excuse IF I LET IT!!!!

      So my goals are:-

1 = To lose that 1 stone by end of January = reward will be fitting into the lovely top I brought when I lost weight last year.

2 = Two stone loss by end of February = reward will be to have my nails done and feel good on night out with my husband work colleagues.

3 = Three stone loss = reward will be shopping for a new pair of jeans as by then I the jeans that I have in the cupboard that are way too tight WILL be too big!!!

Have set these three goals as I have a long journey (approximately 6 stone) and once I achieve these I will set the next goals, although my ultimate goal is being able to go shopping and fitting into a size 12/14 as I have not seen those sizes since I was in my late teens!!!

      Good luck to everyone. Xx

      • Author gravatar

Woohoo Sonia 🙂 I am really glad to hear that you have planned ahead and split this into two sections based on when you expect to have to refeed and just to make it more manageable. I know you are going to rock it and I hope you come back and keep us posted as you smash through these goals.

        Good luck Sonia!

    • Author gravatar

My milestone is getting to my target of a 7 stone loss. I only have 12lbs left (following my xmas splurge 😉 ) which means I don’t really have too much longer to go now. I’m aiming to complete on 10th March which is just over 7 weeks. As an added incentive, I’m planning a city break abroad for the 14th March and I have a gorgeous little black dress which I am determined to fit into!! I really need to get to target now as I’ve been on plan quite a while and therefore am determined to reach this milestone! Nothing is gonna stop me now ;-D

    • Author gravatar

      Hi,

I have around 4 and a half stone to loose and to date have lost just over one.
Four years ago I weighed 11 Stone (I’m 5ft 8ins) then we had a really awful life changing event happen within the family and my daughter needed to move back home with my husband and I.
To cut a long story short in order to spend more time with each other and look after each other we turned to fast food and takeaways.

Things are finally looking upward and my thoughts have now turned to looking after me.
So my goals are monthly – to loose one stone each month and to have 3 stone off for my daughter’s wedding. We have also treated ourselves to a ‘parentmoon’ so I would like to get back into the bikinis and summer clothes I used to wear.

      Jan = 1 stone
      Feb = 1 stone (2)
Mar = 1 stone (3) hopefully the dress I’ve bought for my daughters wedding on 22nd March will fit!!
      April = 1 stone (3/4)
      May = 1 stone (4/5)

      So that’s me!
      Good luck to everyone
      Sue xxxx

    • Author gravatar

These are great milestones and your reasons for wanting them are awesome, it may not hurt to have a few more small rewards dotted throughout your journey 😉 good luck Sue and I know you are going to look amazing for your daughters wedding!

    • Author gravatar

    • Author gravatar

I have visualised some personal milestones and goals for myself.

      1) Is to be 10 st OR as close as possible for my friends hen party February 25th . My reward to myself is a new dress and just going away for the weekend with all the girls and feeling good about myself.
      2) To be 9st 7lb by the end of February. At this stage, I will treat myself to a new hairstyle.
      3) To be at goal of 9st by March 28th for my friend’s wedding. I will reward myself with a new dress again (yes I love my clothes)and by having a great day feeling confident about how I look, for a change.

Can I do it?? Yes I can!!!!! 🙂

      • Author gravatar

You most certainly can Sandra and you will!!! I am thrilled to see that you have time sensitive goals/milestones as these will really help keep you focused as it is not something you can come back to. Good luck Sandra I am sure you will rock all the dresses 🙂

    • Author gravatar

My goal is another 5.5 stone. I break it down to one day at a time and then one stone at a time. I reward myself by buying smaller clothes. My reward at the end will be feeling like a yummy mummy and loving it!!!

    • Author gravatar

My first goal was my Christmas party which I nearly achieved (5/6lbs off what I wanted to be)……but still looked fab and felt amazeballs with new hair and new dress x

My next goal is summer….I want to wear nice shorts where I’m able to nip into town in…I usually just wear them in the garden where no one can see….my biggest part of my body is my thighs ( chicken drumsticks as I call them, all meaty at the top and nothing below lol) to be able to wear shorts and look and feel comfortable is a goal in its self x

Bring on the summer days xx

    • Author gravatar

      Well done Jasmin 🙂

My goals are bite size, a weightloss every week, to stay 100% every day and to drink 3 litres of fluid every day.

My rewards are simple, gaining confidence, loving how I feel and respecting the changes my mind and body are making.

2014 is a year of change and so far I am loving how strong and determined I feel. New You is definitely helping the New Me 😀

    • Author gravatar

I’m just a couple of pounds off my 1st stone so my reward is to get my hair done then take another photo & pin it up beside the last one to remind myself that I can lose the next stone.
2nd milestone… Will spend the time between now & then dreaming up new possibilities for my reward but for now it’s all about concentrating on getting there!

    • Author gravatar

My first milestone is to start fitting into my clothes again. This is my second week and it has already started!

My second milestone will be to have completed three months on the plan and hopefully lost 3 stone!!

My third milestone is to then maintain this weightloss till July (and forever!). I am going abroad for the first time in 5 years. I will be celebrating my 40th birthday whilst away and I would love to wear a bikini (I have never been confident to wear one before).

      Can’t wait!!! xxx

    • Author gravatar

My first goal is to lose a stone in January, however, in even smalled stps, I’m just taking it one day at a time, and enjoying a range of products! (so I chose my faves for my next order)

My second goal, is fitting into my current clothes without it being such a squash and a squeeze!! – the next stone down I guess.

My third goal is for stone number three to have gone before our trip to the Middle East in May. I was there in Easter 2013, I dont want to pack any of the clothes I took for that trip!!

My 4th goal is to need a spray tan before our camping trip in July!! I know that sounds daft, but I only need a spray tan if I’m planning on wearing shorts. I want to be back in my shorts when we are camping…. that will be all 4 stone gone gone gone forever!!!!

    • Author gravatar

      Hi guys,
Well, I have another 9 stone to lose and I aim to complete that by the end of the year, ideally be at my goal weight for my birthday in October. Each month I’m planning to lose a stone and then each month I am rewarding myself with having my nails done. I April when I am around 4 stone lighter I will treat myself with a new dress size 14/16 for the Easter. Then in July when I am 7 stone lighter I am treating myself to some new clothes including a gorgeous dress and a new hair do and celebrating my partner’s birthday. Then in September my best friend is getting married and I want to look great so hopefully will be 8/9 stone lighter and will buy an amazing looking dress. Then in October on my birthday I should be at my goal weight, start refeed, will treat myself to some gorgeous new clothes, new hair do, manicure and pedicure and lots of pampering. This year is really looking good. xxx 🙂

      • Author gravatar

Hi Monika thanks for the support 🙂 These are great goals and rewards. We know that you can do this and I think your plans here are going to give you an even better chance of success! This year is looking good because it will be 🙂 Keep it up Monica –

I know Julz will be thrilled to hear you are going for goal this year.

    • Author gravatar

My goals so far that I already achieved was
When I lost 1stone was to tell my family I was on a diet and that was feeling better already.
When I lost 2 stone to be able to walk again and start playing badminton again.

My next target in when I have lost 3 stone to be free of pain in my hip and therefore not need to have it replaced.
This is a big target but I believe it’s possible because I already have so much less pain.

Then when I am at target to be well, go shopping for new clothes and a outfit for my daughters wedding, I will not only look good for her to be proud of but I will feel good and be able to join in with all the fun instead of being a kill joy sat in chair and only watching the fun.

      • Author gravatar

You are an inspiration Linda and I would love to have another interview with you when you get there, I really enjoyed our last chance to catch up. I know you are going to blitz your targets this year – you are already so close 🙂 Good luck Linda.

    • Author gravatar

I aim to be at my ideal weight within 2 1/2 months – which will be when i need to reefed. I am 12.9 now (have lost 2 1/2 stones already!) My initial goal was 12 1/2 but have moved that to 11.3 which will be the top end of my ideal weight. Then my hubby gets to take me shopping 🙂 – this was instead of christmas presents! Then I would like to get to 10.10 which was my post baby size. Think I may have to book a child free weekend away to celebrate that one!

my 1st goal is to get to ketosis without blip[ping as the last few days have been hard for me.

My 2nd goal is once in ketosis to stay there, I will do this by not letting myself be swayed by negative thoughts, i.e. ahhh you are nearly there, you look ok etc.

My 3rd goal is to get to week 1 weigh in and once there set new goals for the following week.

I am only setting small goals at present as if I set them too big I then struggle.

      • Author gravatar

These are great goals and given the timescales they are going to ensure you make it through week 1 Shell. You have done an amazing job and I can’t wait to see the final result! I would love to hear what treats you have lined up for smashing these goals. Have a great weekend Shell 🙂

I’m on my phone so will be short –
Am at 1.5 off or 11 stone mark at the moment, my reward is fitting into outfits I’d left in the wardrobe, so many extra options every morning 🙂 compliments I’m getting as people notice the change
At 10 will buy myself new work bag to fit laptop etc. and personal stuff.
Will take the size 12’s down from the attic!
At 9 will get fab shoes from my favourite shoe shop and get the size 10’s down!!
Want to go to 8.5 stone, at which time will buy some new jeans, something I haven’t worn since size 12 as refused to buy up sizes 🙂
Em, not so short after all… 🙂 x

I am rather glad it was not short Siobhan as these are great milestones/goals and rewards I can tell a lot of thought went into the rewards. Funny enough I need a new laptop bag too 🙂 holding onto it for sentimental reasons… Good luck and I am sure you will be buying the new jeans before too long!

My first is to take off the weight I put on over the Christmas holidays – 2 lb to go. I have lost half a stone this week so pleased with this one.

My second is to take off another stone and get to 10 stone or under. It is possible at this rate.

My third is to buy the dress or outfit I want to wear for my son’s wedding. I am going out with my son and daughter in law in March so want to feel good in whatever I see and be able to buy something special. It is possible if I stick to this.

My fourth is 6 weeks l00 per cent so I achieve the above 3.

My fifth is to be part of the new you weigh in – I have opted out because too lazy to join in. Just write on line – so need to do this and be part of it.

      • Author gravatar

Awesome weeks result Lesley – this is definitely going to help you keep the momentum!I think your sons wedding is the most powerful motivator you could ever have. Ellie and I would love to see you on the leaderboard 🙂 good luck Lesley!

      Hello lovely people,
I seem to have difficulties posting to these things but here goes!
I have struggled sticking to the total food replacement side of New You,
and while I have lost weight it has been at a far slower rate than those
that have managed it :-(. Reading the theory behind milestones and goals
put me in mind of another ‘programme’ that I have managed to follow with
success and in particular one small part of it: “Just for today I can do
something for 12 hours that would appall me if I felt I had to keep it up
      for a lifetime.”
With this in mind I put together the following goals and rewards:
Goal 1: to stick to TFR for 7 days and make sure I drink at least 3 ltrs a
      day
      Reward 1: a Thai massage – heaven!
Goal 2: My best friend gets married next month and I am her bridesmaid. My
goal is to lose a stone by 21st February
Reward 2: To look and feel the best I can on her wedding day
Goal 3: To start exercising, starting with working up to jogging 3 times a
week using the couch to 5 K app. Getting up to 5k and entering the Race for
      Life.
Reward 3: Book a spa weekend away with the Mr. Packing a swimming cossie,
and wearing it without feeling ashamed or self conscious.

So it’s a start. These are milestones that if meant would mean that I have
succeeded in things that I have been skirting around for a long time, and I
can only imagine that the sense of achievement would spur me on to even
      bigger things.
Thank you New You. Will keep you posted. X

My first goal is to complete 4 weeks of TFR products and achieve my January challenge of loosing 21lb, I have also booked myself in at the end of the month for a body wrap and hair colouring as a treat for completing stage one.

Second goal is to complete a further 4 weeks of TFR products, by the end of this month I hope to be reaching a loss of 30lbs plus and I’m going to book myself in to a health spa for the day, in the hope I can wear one of their robes and be able to fasten it up like a ‘normal’ person.

Third goal is to reach 12 weeks of TFR products and treat myself to a makeover (set of clothes and prehaps hair and make up) at which point I hope to be a size 16. The tricky bit will be refeed and getting straight back on track as I will still have approx 4 stone to loose.

So fourth and possibly most challenge goal will be completing 16 weeks on programme after my refeed, at this point is to remain focus as I get to a point where I start to feel and look good and wander off track BUT this time I want to go ALL the way so at this point will start upping my exercise and book a holiday to keep me focused and buy a size 12 dress that I’ve never been in my life for something to aim for.

Fifth goal as it will be warmer, my challenge will be to do some form of activity or excersise with children after school, knowing that my holiday and potential bikini wearing will take place at the end of the month.

Final goal and again most tricky is to reach size 10/12 and maintain, remembering why I lost ALL the weight in the first place.

Awesome Gillian, it is great to see that you have everything plotted right through to the end. It is great when you can see exactly where you are going and knowing just how it is that you are going to do it! You will crack all six of these and we are going to make sure it happens 🙂

I have a different ring goal, to be able to get a ring off my finger! It went on years ago and it’s now stuck, will not go over my knuckle 🙁 luckily I like my ring but it was worrying last year when my finger was swollen and it was cutting into me.

      For this year

Goal one: to lose maybe another 1/2 stone (hopefully 2 stone down in total) whatever it takes to finally get into the next size down. My reward is to explore the hidden depths of my wardrobe where I’ve found lots of clothes I’ve not worn for the last year or two!

Goal two: to be down another stone by Easter. Reward will be a trip to my favourite shop!

Goal three: to be in the next size down for my birthday in May. Reward will be a new outfit.

Goal four: to be 4 stone down by end of June. Reward will be a shopping trip for new clothes for holiday

Goal five: to reach goal weight, 4 and a half stone down by August. Reward will be to get my hair done.

Goal six: to still be at or near (am going to allow myself a few lbs leeway) goal at Christmas. Reward will be to look up flights to Oz!

My weight loss is fairly slow at 2lbs a week so am not expecting a stone a month but as long as I get there!

      • Author gravatar

I think your first goal should mean that the ring comes off. I know that will be a relief. You really have put a lot of time and effort into this Alison and I know that having taken this much time to plot your success that nothing is going to get in your way. I am so jealous of you heading off to Oz. Good luck Alison and thanks for the support!

      Hi
Milestone one is after 2 months to have lost 2 stone (I’m in week 7 and lost 24 lbs so far)

Milestone two is to stay on track, I have been swayed every day now for a week and don’t want to be.

Rewards will be to feel healthy and be able to take my skirts in
      Carol

    • Author gravatar

Great milestones Carol and I would love to see you hit your overall target. Given your concern for staying on track and this comes into your second milestone it may help to bring this forward and break it into smaller milestones until you find your rhythm 🙂 Good luck Carol
