4 Changing Room Secrets That Every Woman Needs To Know

New You Plan customer and fashionista Emma shares how she went from changing room gloom to va va voom, thanks to The New You Plan.

The sweat trickles down your back, over your forehead and under your arms. The constricting feeling intensifies as red welts appear on your skin. Your heart rate quickens as anxiety peaks – are you going to have to be cut out? No, you are not in a horror movie…you are in a changing room.

There are 4 reasons why changing rooms give us the creeps and make us look like we are extras in a zombie movie:

  1. Flickering, florescent lighting that creates the ‘I haven’t seen sunlight for a decade’ look
  2. Warped mirrors that distort everything from your head downwards
  3. NOTHING in your size fits – actually nothing
  4. The cubicle is usually the size of an iPhone

Welcome to clothes shopping hell. Does anyone actually like changing rooms?

Here, New You Plan customer and fashionista Emma, tells us why, for her, changing rooms are back in vogue again.

I love clothes. Saturday’s were spent wandering around the shops, trying on different outfits to wear that evening. That all changed however when I began to put on weight.

I had just come out of a relationship that didn’t end well and I started to comfort eat. It didn’t seem like much at first. An extra takeaway here or a few bars of chocolate there. But then it became a habit. I would have my dinner and then order a takeaway later on to watch a movie. My friends were taking me out more too, so I was having a few drinks then grabbing food on the way home. I was lonely and to be honest, I felt a bit lost. Eating made me feel better… until it didn’t.

I think I first noticed my weight gain when I tried to get into my favourite Ted Baker trousers for a night out. They were a size 14 and I couldn’t even get them to meet over my tummy. I was gutted. Rather than do something about it though, I just ate more.

“I can still remember when I decided I was going to make a change. It was in a changing room!”

My Saturday night out was still a thing but I started to dread shopping for clothes. For a start – nothing fitted me. My usual shops stopped at around a 16/18 and I was now a size 22. My friends would encourage me to take something into the changing rooms and I would just grab the loosest thing I could find, pretend to try it on, and then say it looked rubbish, or I didn’t like the colour, in fact anything I could think of to avoid coming out of the changing room.

I didn’t want to buy clothes in my current size anyway as in my head it was only ‘temporary’. I had one pair of black trousers which had an elasticated waist and I would rotate nice tops with them. By nice I mean tops that would hide my arms and my tummy. I didn’t want to spend money on my usual brands either, so I bought cheaper clothing which really didn’t do me any favours. It was ok though because guess what? It was ‘temporary’.

A year later I was a size 24 and my going out trousers didn’t fit me anymore. The temporary situation had been going on for 3 years. I had stopped Saturday shopping with the girls and would make excuses as to why I couldn’t go on our usual Saturday night out. I had two wardrobes, my before clothes in sizes 12-14 and my ‘temporary’ shapeless leggings and tunics in size 24. To be honest, it broke my heart. For a girl who loves fashion and colour, I just felt like I was lost in a sea of black.

I can still remember when I decided I was going to make a change. It was in a changing room and I was that girl.

We had our work summer barbeque coming up and I needed something to wear, so I had arranged to meet up with my bestie Claire to take a trip to the shops. I had tried on a dress in my size but I had misjudged it. I was trying to take it off and it was actually stuck on my arms. I was terrified I was going rip it. The dress was actually half on and half off my arms but the lining had twisted so it wouldn’t budge. And it was over my head so I couldn’t even see what I was doing. I was trying to inch it up my arms but I had managed to create what I can only describe as a type of straight jacket out of this dress. I was so stuck.

The sweat was lashing off me which made everything stick more. I truly thought I was going to have to be cut out of that dress. Trying not to attract the attention of the sales assistant, I desperately whispered for Claire to come and help me. It honestly took both us 15 minutes to get that dress off me. That was the end of the shopping trip!

That evening I was scrolling through Facebook and I saw an advert for The New You Plan. Well I actually saw a picture of a radiant, smiling woman wearing a fabulous dress which made me read the article. It was about a customer who had lost weight using The New You Plan and was happily showing off her new figure in beautiful outfits. She described how she had lost 4 dress sizes in 4 months! I placed my first order that night.

The plan was really easy to follow and as I opted for Total Food Replacement, I simply had my packs every day so there was no stress about what to cook or preparing meals. The food was really tasty too and the support from the online community was amazing.

Four months later I had gone from a size 24 to a size 14. I can’t describe the feeling I get now walking into a changing room with new clothes to try on. The familiar buzz is back but it’s excitement not fear. I am back in my favourite Ted Baker outfits and I honestly feel amazing. I can’t stop smiling and everyone knows smiles are always in fashion 🙂

You see, Every body fits at The New You Plan. You can easily try the plan on for size and if you get stuck, there is always someone to help you.’
