After facing one of life’s toughest battles with bowel cancer in 2023, Marie was determined to put her health first and regain control of her body and mindset. Just 10 weeks after starting The New You Plan, she has already lost an amazing 2st 8lbs – but for her, the real transformation has gone far beyond the scales.

From breaking free of food obsession to rebuilding her confidence and learning to listen to her body, Marie’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when you decide to put yourself first.

What mindset changes have you noticed since starting the plan?

I think my biggest mindset change has been to not feel so obsessed by food anymore. I used to think about food all the time and over ate everyday. The structure of the plan meant that I was able to set out what packs I was going to have each day and then just reach for them when I became hungry. This enabled me to reset my thinking. When I started to incorporate food into my days on Switch I tracked all my calories and enjoyed making better choices. 

What has this journey taught you about your relationship with food and your body?

I had bowel cancer in 2023, which I am thankfully now in remission from. My body changed so much after the treatment had finished. My digestive system in particular changed and my body became very sensitive to a lot of foods. Most of these would cause stomach pain and constant trips to the loo. The New You packs helped settle my system back down. It became much easier for me to detect which foods didn’t suit my body once I started following Switch. For instance, I don’t drink any fizzy drinks at all now as they give me stomach pains. And I can only tolerate 2 litres of fluid a day. 

How do you stay on track when you face challenges or slip-ups?

The most important thing I do is track my calories everyday. When I know I have events coming up I will document everything I have eaten – even if I go way over my daily allowance. This accountability makes me feel in control. When I have gone over I always start back on plan the very next day. Also drinking more water has helped hugely as I now realise I was thirsty a lot of the time and not hungry!! 

What meals or snacks feel like absolute staples in your routine right now?

My favourite is the Apple and White Chocolate Bar! It’s so tasty and filling. My savoury favourite is the Cottage Pie and I like to have some of the Bacon Tortilla Crisps with it sometimes! 

Have you found a rhythm that’s working well for you on plan?

Absolutely! Most weekdays I stick to the total plan and at weekends I always do switch as it fits in with my lifestyle. For me this works perfectly and makes me feel in control. 

What’s the nicest compliment you’ve received during your journey so far?

That I am standing taller! I know this sounds weird but I felt so low before I started and would hunch over in a vain attempt to try and fade into the background. Now I’m standing tall and holding myself so much better.

What advice would you give to someone just starting the plan?

Remind yourself daily why you are on the plan. It may feel strange the first few days as our bodies can detox off all the food we have been consuming prior, but your body will adjust and reset and you will start to feel amazing. I nearly lost my life to bowel cancer and thanks to medicine and the amazing NHS I am still here, so I need to look after myself to do everything I can to stay cancer free. 

What are you most looking forward to when you reach your goal?

The sense of achievement I know I will feel and also knowing I have done everything I possibly can to keep me at my peak state of health as my priority is to be on this Earth for as long as I can for my son who is my world.
