Getting started…

New You: What led to you starting the plan?

Carole: I had major revision hip replacement surgery last November (resulting from a disability I was born with) and was struggling with my weight at the time due to being in pain and comfort eating. After surgery I was fairly immobile for some time and my surgery also didn’t have the best outcome, so I ended up putting on some more weight. This led to me feeling pretty low about everything, but I have always been a pro-active and positive person so I tried to lose some weight myself but was struggling (mainly due to mobility and being peri menopausal). While looking for something that would help I came across The New You Plan on Facebook.

New You: How much weight have you lost?

Carole: I have lost 4st 6lbs (62lbs). My original goal was to get to 10 stone but I have surpassed that and I am currently 8 stone 11lbs and doing a mixture of switch and New You Plan (boost days, nourish days mixed with full New You Plan days).

New You: And tell us about that first week…

Carole: I was nervous and excited about my first week. I had really read up about the plan in depth and I joined the Facebook group as soon as I put my first order in, so I could read up on all the features and get other support and tips. The first few days were a struggle but drinking the water really helped, as did the Pineapple Boosts, Snacks, Water Flavourings. I used Secret Slimmers to tips around how to use the packs, the bouillon drink and making the jellies using the Water Flavourings. The Facebook group was so much more supportive than I ever thought it would be and this really helped me when I was struggling!

New You: What are your go-to meals & snacks?

Carole: I LOVE all of the Porridges (especially Apple & Cinnamon!). I’m also very partial to the Burger Mix and Indian Daal and I can’t live without my Pineapple Boost every day (amazing energy boost). The Salt & Vinegar Protein Crisps and White Chocolate Balls are my go to snacks!

Life changing results…

How would you say the plan has changed your life?

Carole: Losing the weight has made my mobility so much better! Also carrying less weight on my false hips has huge benefits. My body and joints feel so much better and my energy levels are also hugely increased. My mind set is so much better now especially around eating and not using food as a comfort or ‘crutch’. I feel you really need to work on changing habits and mindset around food alongside the diet. Overall I feel healthier, stronger and above all happier and my life has changed for the better 100%!!

I am a huge advocate for inclusivity for all as I was born with my condition/disability and have never let it stop me doing anything. That’s why I have shared my story in Secret Slimmers to show everyone that anyone can do this plan, adapt it and make it work for them! I’ve always used my disability as a platform to promote inclusivity and help others in any way I can and I’ve never let it hold me back. In fact it’s shaped the person I am today in such a positive way. 

I would also like to say the same for the New You Plan. Over the past 5-6 months it has certainly shaped the person I am right now and is continuing to help me get stronger and learn to help my body and mindset in ways I never thought possible!!

New You: What has being on plan taught?

Carole: That you can still eat tasty, nutritious food and lose weight. I think I was mostly over eating through boredom and emotions. It has been eye opening to change that mindset and retrain my attitude and thought process around food, mental attitude and above all remaining positive and leading a healthier lifestyle.

New You: How has maintaining your weight loss been?

Carole: I’ve achieved my goal, but just being a happier, stronger and above all healthier version of myself is my huge achievement. If I look back at a year ago I was just out of hospital, in a wheelchair and feeling very low. But fast forward just a year later and I’m a completely different person who will never regret finding this plan, it really has changed my life for the better! 

New You: Any memorable non-scale victories you’d like to share?

Carole: There have been a few. Firstly, being able to get back out on my bike and go on longer and harder cycles and build this up. Secondly, being able to go swimming and not feel self conscious in a costume. 

Another was getting back into a very small dress and pair of Christmas themed leggings that I never thought I’d be able to wear again.

Lastly, just being able to move and exercise more, Losing weight alongside my recovery from surgery has had huge benefits fitness wise and has allowed me to really progress with my physio as well.

New You: What is the nicest compliment you have received since losing weight?

Carole: I have had a lot of people tell me I look amazing and well done on my achievement. But I think the best compliment was that I looked so much happier and the person could see the positivity coming from me, not just on the outside but the inside too.

New You: If you could go back in time to when you were beginning the plan, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Carole: Stick with it! It absolutely works 100%!!! I think I went in with such reservations as nothing else had or was working and I was worried this wouldn’t either. However, the complete opposite was true and this plan has really worked for me. I lost 11lbs in my first 2 weeks and it blew my socks off! Don’t get me wrong there were slower weeks and tougher times but it is so true that you need to trust the process. This plan has more than worked for me and I’ve learned so much from it and I’m still continuing to learn what works for me. I love that I still have the support of both the Secret Slimmers and Switch groups and this is invaluable to me. I’ve not seen or experienced anything that comes close to it anywhere else!
