
Tessa Lost 10st 4lbs – Here’s How She’s Maintaining Her Weight Loss & Staying in Control

Tessa, how are you finding maintaining your weight loss now?
Honestly, I’m really enjoying it. I did have a 4lb gain when I transitioned back to normal meals, but that didn’t come as a shock. I had read on the website that this could happen – it even mentioned gains of up to 7lb when reintroducing regular food. Knowing that helped me feel prepared and calm about it. This isn’t a setback, it’s part of the process.

Have you faced any challenges, especially while working around food?
My mindset around food has changed completely. I now look at something and immediately think, “Is this really worth it? Do I want to use up all those calories on something I fancy but don’t actually need?”
I still love my job in catering, but being around food used to be tricky. Now, I keep a little bowl of celery, cucumber, or carrots next to me if I feel like nibbling. It’s all about staying aware and making conscious choices.
How did your walking group come about – what inspired it?
It all started with a chat with fellow Secret Slimmer Bev Thompson Holroyd. We realised we didn’t live far from each other and thought, why not meet up? We’d both done other diets in the past and really valued face-to-face connection, so we posted about it and made it happen.

Meeting people in person has been such a lovely way to connect over shared experiences – the highs, the lows, and everything in between. It’s also a great way to encourage those who might be struggling to open up, especially if typing things out online doesn’t come naturally to them.
What difference has walking made to your mental and physical wellbeing?

Walking has been a total game changer for me. I have osteoarthritis in my back and knees, so high-impact activities like running are off the table. But walking? Anyone can build that up, no matter their ability.
There’s something so calming about popping in your headphones and heading out for a walk in the fresh air. It clears your head, lifts your mood, and gets those feel-good endorphins flowing. Plus, it’s a brilliant way to burn calories and lower blood glucose levels. My son has Type 1 Diabetes, and walking is actually the fastest way to bring his blood sugar back down when it’s high – even better than cycling!

What advice would you give to someone who’s just completed the plan?
First off, head over to the Help Centre on the New You website and search “Maintenance” – there’s a wealth of information there. Also, definitely join the New You Switch group and check out the content in the Featured Tab.
Another tip? Don’t waste calories on things your body doesn’t need. I read the calorie content of everything before deciding if it’s worth it. I’ve even switched to dark chocolate for my treats – and because I don’t love it, I’m happy with just one square!

What non scale victories have stood out during your maintenance phase?
My biggest NSV has to be my mental strength. I feel totally in control of what I eat. I now make decisions that benefit my body and my goals.
It’s like my mind now intercepts those automatic habits and says, “Hold on, is this really what you want?” That control is such an empowering feeling.
What do you enjoy most about supporting others through the community?
I absolutely LOVE helping others and seeing them hit their goals. There’s something so rewarding about knowing you played a small part in someone else’s success.
Cheering people on, sharing advice, and watching others thrive – it’s the best feeling.

How did you find using New You Plan products to support your maintenance after you reached your goal?
I still use the products a lot, and they’ve been a great support. For breakfast, I usually have the NYP Porridge (or the muesli if I’m heading to work). I often include the Potato, Leek and Cheese Pot with my evening meal, or enjoy one of the Bars later in the day.
If I have calories left in the evening, I’ll treat myself to a hot chocolate based NYP shake before bed, along with some NYP Crisps. I genuinely enjoy the products – they’ve become part of my daily routine.
