Hey Everyone 🙂 I’m John aged 33, from Portadown I first started my journey with The New You Plan last year, one day I decided to weigh myself and when I stood on the scale I thought I had won the lotto, the number kept going and going till it finally reached a stop at 23 stone 3 pounds.

I compare weight loss / healthy living to a train rolling down the track, a train takes a lot of rolling, chugging along, sputtering and the noise, bellowing smoke and dragging the immense weight of it down the tracks. Slowly but surely it gains momentum picking up the speed and it gets easier for the train to keep rolling until it’s up to speed and chugging along almost effortlessly, efficiently and I dare not to stop it.

My current weight to date is 17 stone 3 pounds with a total loss of 6 stone I aim to loss another 3 stone – I know i cant believe it I feel amazing!

Losing weight is difficult, no matter what your circumstances is, but the reason for me losing weight is to have a better life style and be able to focus on dropping the plus size clothes and move on the high street shops where I would be able to have a larger variety to choose from.

This year I have signed up for strictly come dancing with the Southern trust, this charity is very close to my heart. Last year I lost a much loved work colleague to cancer who left her young daughter behind. I went to the hospital one day to visit her she had asked to hold my hand as her eyes started to fill with tears she put her head on my shoulder and whispered into my ear I don’t want to die yet, I was struck by how indiscriminate the illness is and how helpless we remain in so many cases. I want to honour her extraordinary bravery in the face of the cruelest of illnesses and to support the vital service and treatment Marie curie team give to family’s within all areas of the communities. This is why I am taking part in strictly come dancing in her memory.

The Marie Curie Charity offers free nursing care to people living with all terminal illnesses who want to spend their last few days, weeks, months at home.

In 2014/15 Marie Curie cared for 85,000 people living with a terminal illness right across Northern Ireland and their families. Marie Curie community nurses care for people in their own homes. They also have a fabulous hospice in Belfast which is an 18 bed in patient unit and day therapy facilities.   Marie Curie strive to provide the right care in the right place at the right time. They support people throughout their illness by giving practical information, support from trained volunteers and simply being there when someone wants to talk.

The Southern Health and Social Care Trust  (SHSCT) has a partnership with Marie Curie (MC) This is the biggest partnership ever entered into by MC. The aim is to raise a minimum of £200,000 which will be used to expand and maintain Marie Curie services such as a rapid response unit and more nurses to care for individuals and provide support to families too.

Through the hard work of Trust staff, Marie Curie staff, ambulance staff and others, we are confident of reaching our goal. We need the support of many, many people to ensure we can make life better for as many people as possible. There has been numerous fundraising to date but the biggest has been the launch of the Southern Trust Strictly come dancing 2016

This has attracted 100 staff members, from support services right up to Directors. Originally it started as a 1 night, 1 venue event but with all the interest it created we are now 4 venues, with the top 3 couple’s from each venue  progressing to a 5th night, the Grand Finale in Armagh City Hotel (Northern Ireland)

Each dancer has to train 2 nights a week for 6 weeks led by professional dancers. The event is being managed by a professional production company,  Take 2 Productions in conjunction with the Southern Trusts charity committee. Any help you might be able to give will be greatly accepted and together we can make a difference to people’s lives.
